It is amazing how the PR departments for universities don't do a better job of knowing their environment. Auburn could be running circles around Alabama if they would get out ahead of stories and make their own news.

They don't have a way to get out in front of the story. I don't even think they have a journalism department. We have media who went to Alabama all over the state and the rest play to the majority UA fanbase to keep their jobs or get ratings like finebaum.

I talked with someone a while back who gave me a good bit of info, relating to three things:

1. The Dyer problems: Mentioned drugs, coaches weren't happy with him for a number of reasons, would be unlikely for him to return next year
2. The Roof departure
3. Some sort of rift in the Athletic Department. All I heard was Jacobs vs. Chizik, but I wasn't told anything else.

Anyway, I'm not quite sure what's going on, but there's something there.

The Cam money train stopped. NCAA just looking for a reason to pounce!

My two cents:

1) Roof was asked to look for a job and found one. It was a courtesy by Chizik to not flat fire the guy and put that stigma on him again.

2) TJ Yeldon had been recruited continually by Bama. They never gave up and he never gave them a reason to. He saw the "past two guys to play RB for Bama have been (or will be) 1st rounders" pitch as being believable and feels he can make that same type of impact. Doesn't hurt that his best friend is an EE commit at Bama and has stayed on him about going to Bama together/rooming together. That said, I do believe Luper has made a couple of statements in the past few weeks that bugged TJ.

3) here's where I put on my flame suit b/c I know it will be hot in here in a minute. Malzahn and Chiz have had several small issues all season. Malzahn didn't expect it to change next year and he also was beginning to believe the only way he'd get the job he wants is to prove himself as a HC somewhere. My personal opinion based on a few conversations is that he felt it would have been ideal to wait another year, but he & Chiz had reached a point that it was just time for Gus to go (still Gus' decision, unlike Roof).

4) AU fans will not agree with me, but Gus can't stand Trooper. The only coaches on that staff that can are Luper & Chiz (to a lesser degree). Trooper has feelers out to 3 schools (A&M, Miami, and UNC). If he can get an offer he's gone. That will help staff harmony as well.

5) Stoops had genuine interest in the AU job (for 1 year). He and Jimbo don't get along great and it would have been a good out for him. However, something happened in his one-on-one with Chizik that made him change his mind.

6) AU will still hire a very good OC & a very good DC. They'll still recruit at a top 10 level and will improve next year.

ETA: Dyer is not just a failed drug test, but also horrid grades and attitude issues. Props to Chiz for taking a stand.

Yeah, I can see that. But, a lot of it could come from Chizik himself. He sets the tone. He is at one of those crisis points where he can stay the course and point forward to a good, solid future. Miles was at a similar point in 2008-09 and I seriously doubted that he would able to turn things around, but he did. Miles just kept doing what he was doing. The 2009 recruiting class made a HUGE difference. Then, we started winning again.

I am not saying that Auburn is going down. But, that is the perception and there are enough people with vested interest in making that perception a reality in Alabama that Chizik can't just sit tight like Miles did in Louisiana. He needs to create his own perception.

At this point, they need to throw big money at an excellent offensive coordinator. That position is even more important than defense for Auburn right now.

Well, Auburn is getting a lot of bad PR right now. I've been out of the loop mostly, but there seems to be a lot of smoke that people are saying is evidence of a fire.

Yeah I have heard that shite for over a year now and I have yet to see the flames. Look it is a program going through some change and our rivals jumping on the negativity of it.

Yes Chizik needs to make the moves on our new coordinators. I am not overly concerned at all as I have other more pertinent things to really worry about in life. I love college football, I love watching the ebb and flow of it, but at the end of the day my life goes on should Auburn stumble along the way. This really is a non issue for me.

Sounds like Auburn has all the problems it needs to be the doormat of the West in the coming years.

The one year part would've sealed it for me.... rent-a-DC is not a game we need to play... not with the youth we have on D.... we need someone who can give us a solid unit in 12, and have them playing lights out in 2013... that's not gonna happen if stoops leaves after next season.

Honestly, I hope so, and I mean that very sincerely. I would like to Auburn be a 9-3 or 10-2 type school every year with one of their losses coming to LSU, obviously. I want them to be competitive and for us to beat them in good, hard fought games. I want the same for Alabama.

It doesn't do any of us any good to see Auburn go 7-5 and get blown out in the 5 losses.

Well, obviously. I have not been paying close attention either, which is why I came here to ask. I just keep hearing bits and pieces insinuating something, so I thought I'd assuage my curiosity with a trip to the SEC Rant.

Sounds like more Bama Bias making a mountain out of a molehill in Alabama.

The last thing I want my coach to be worried about is what the media, etc think of him. That's one thing I like about Chizik, and I believe him on this, is he's only focused on Auburn. He really doesn't care about any outside distractions. He needs to coach and recruit, not be a PR guy.

We just had the highest paid OC in the country last year. It's not like people are running the other way. Chizik is going to take his time and get the best fit on both OC and DC. I'd expect nothing less.

We had one. I don't have any 1st or even 2nd hand knowledge of what happened but the running story is that Lowder didn't care for some of the things that were coming out of there about him and had it shut down.

I find it amusing that Bama fans always seem to know more about the Auburn athletic department than Auburn people do.

Ok. You got me. I'm just taking specific, detailed wild assed guesses at it. Making this shite up as I go.

Get a clue, bruh.
