They should win a national championship in their first 5 years at a top program. If they don't win one by the 10th year it's time for a change.

So spurrier wasn't good at Florida I guess. Took him seven.

Stoops and Jimbo won them in under 3 years at first HC job. Not sure anybody else has ever done that.

I mean let's be honest, how many coaches even coaching in the NCAA right now have titles? Saban, Meyer, Stoops, Fisher, Spurrier, Miles are the HCs I can think of immediately. Maybe I'm forgetting a couple but tops 10 coaches coaching today have won titles.

It's not easy to do

Nick Saban - took him 4 years at his 3rd stop as a coach and second stop at a P5 school
Urban Meyer
Frank Leahy
Darrell Royal
Lou Holtz - after 5 years at NC State, 7 at Arkansas, 2 at Minnesota, and 2 at Notre Dame (Holtz was FIRED at Arkansas)
Pete Caroll

My hand is getting tired?

Chizik - second year NC, 4th year 3-9...

There are a lot of factors to consider.

Tom Osborne became HC at Nebraska in 1973 and didn't win a title until 1994.

the way this board talks he should have been fired well before he ever got his first ship.

Stoops has also lost 3. So if getting there is all that matters Stoops is tGOAT

So, basically, I'm getting that some people (mostly trolls) think if your coach is only Top 15 not Top 5 or 10 then you should fire that coach even though you know the odds of finding someone even of the same caliber are very slim. Brilliant.

Nick Saban didn't win a title in his first five years.

Neither did Urban Meyer.

I don't think Bear Bryant did either.

If a program can find a coach that will have them competing year in and year out, they are lucky. Championships are hard to do, and they always require some luck during the season. I would say if a program has a legit shot at a national championship every 4-5 years, there shouldn't ever be talk of firing a coach.
