First, I think it is a bit sad that some fans only measure of success is with National Championships won.

Arkansas or Iowa fans to ever expect a National Championship is ridiculous. However, it may happen, but I doubt I will ever see it.

That would be the equivalent of playing only 1 PGA golf tournament a year, and crowning that person as the Champion.
Except there are 156 players.

With 128 teams and only 1 champion per year, this is an unreasonable expectation for all but a handful of programs.

And you need to be ok with having some pond scum on your team.

Does Osborne have the same team in 1994 without Phillips and Peter?

I agree with you. MAC level teams should not expect it.

Not sure what is "reasonable", but here's how long some other coaches took:

Bobby Bowden - 18 years
Joe Paterno - 17 years
Tom Osborne - 22 years
Bo Schembechler - Never
