They were referring to Travis Williams, the LB coach at AU.

Im not missing anything here. you seem to be the one not grasping things here

LSU came up with a back up option when Steele might go to AU. They counter offered, Steele said no, so LSU moved on. Sorry you cant seem to get that through your thick skull

Aranda finished with a better defense.

According to LSU fans he had better players as well. So Steele had worse players and raised the bar much higher than Aranda.

Is Kevin Steele a better defensive coordinator than Dave Aranda?

Aranda has only been a DC for a few years, so for anyone to make a proclamation is a fool.

You are not wrong but posters ability to willing use this or ignore to help their argument is incredibly frustrating.

There was no counter offer or matching and Jimmy Smith isn't a source for that kinda stuff. He posts on here so you can ask him sometime if you really want to.

Where did anyone say this? I sure didn't.

He's been a defensive coordinator since 2010.

Again, I think Steele did a good job with the Auburn D last year. But he was not good with LSU. His D gave up 20+ points in 7 different games that year. Believe it or not, that has NEVER happened before to the LSU defense.

I'll add that it is remarkable that Steele ended up with the #7 scoring defense with a schedule that included the top 3 teams in the country (Clemson, Alabama, OU) and in all three games AU had fullbacks throwing passes with no offensive help at all.

I'll give you that but it doesn't explain why South Carolina and Florida lit us up as well.

True, Steele's LSU D had some pretty awful games against mediocre offenses.

But overall, it wasn't the unmitigated disaster that it's being described. Aranda seems to be clearly better than Steele, but Steele isn't terrible.

To answer the OP's question, most AU fans think he's good enough.

Do not use any SEC Pass Defense stat the last 8 years to show how good of a DC a person is. The SEC has had a total of 8-10 good passing QBs the last 8 years.

Only a Les Miles coached team would lose to a team by 6 field goals.

Too bad for Auburn and the rest of the SEC, he's no longer here!

CEO will do very well at LSU!

He's not bad. He improved our D tremendously.

That being said...........he is no Chief. Remember when he was the best DC in the country?

Pittsburg calls their defense the Steele curtain because of Kevin's influence.

Did they change the rules so you win games by the most yards?

Total yards is a good measure by which to judge a defense, same as total yards are a good measure for an offense.

Granted, the only Auburn game I watched was vs Alabama, and your guys sucked it up pretty bad that day.
