For whatever reason (and there are multiple reasons) JFF just pushes the meter. Because of this, ESPN is going to exploit JFF for every second of airtime it can possibly squeeze out of him.

Nguyening wasn't far off in his satire - ESPN is about 1 week away from hiring a private detective to take JFF's stool sample so they can have a round table discussion and analysis of said stool.

OH no...I completely agree. Im just starting to have a problem with the media and thier percieved piling on.

But that's what they do, Jase. We know this. We've known this.

For good or ill, it's the system we live in. A lot of athletes know how to game it to their advantage (or have handlers -- whom they listen to -- who tell them how to game it to their advantage) and they keep their heads down for the most part and their highlights sparkling while keeping their eyes on the prize: that big NFL payday.

Some, like Julio, never seem to forget the lessons they learned in college and remain out of the spotlight while still working their hardest and they see the fruits of their labor early. Pro bowls and the like. Some, like Roddy White, ride the brink until they finally get their (personal) act together.

Some flame out as soon as they get there, but the point is that they made it there.

ESPN is basically 1 hair above TMZ in terms of actual journalism vs. tabloid sensationalism.

It's especially bad during the summer when there isn't much going on in the sports world.

I had to sit through 30 minutes of A-rod talk this morning on Mike and Mike and they even complained about the attention Arod is getting over real baseball...Im on my couch going, "Then stop talking about him!"

That's certainly true. I'm still going to be critical of them for it.

I agree with you all the way.

And I say the exact same thing about JFF just doing what other 20 year olds do.

The thing I get out of that article most of all is just how naive his parents are. Why in hell would you go to ESPN and give an article like that? Do you honestly think it is going to HELP take pressure off of your son?

You do not go to ESPN reporters to bare your soul and then complain that you and your kid live in a bubble. Some of the complaints also make no sense. They are mad that the school makes money off of Johnny and that Sumlin got a raise? What exactly is the school supposed to do, not take advantage of having a Heisman winner? They can't pay him anything and they know that. It's not like Johnny won't be set for life if he doesn't burn bridges. JDC is a wealthy man who has lived a dream life off of his Heisman even though he was only an average NFL player, do they not understand that?

I also don't get the complaints about A&M cooperating with the NCAA in terms of compliance. Uh, they damn well better for both Johnny's sake and the school's. It is really easy to lose eligibility and A&M certainly understands that, how his Dad does not is mind boggling.

A&M is getting him counseling and as much security help as they can, what else are they supposed to do? Johnny isn't listening. He's still on Twitter and he's out "livin' the life". That's fine but it has consequences.

At this point I have no idea what is going to happen with Johnny. I hope he can keep it together. I do agree he is just a kid trying to figure it out but this is the first time I have seen where his family may be making some problems worse for him.

WTF is up with having a HS dropout run his PR btw? Really? When a kid is relying on another kid named "Uncle" anything that isn't a good sign. There is no shortage of people that would like to help Johnny and his family but they need to want to be helped.
+1

Sounds like Paul is nothing more than a rich, spoiled rotten brat and so is his son. Paul doesn't understand the need for aTm compliance with the NCAA? He has the nerve to send a shitty text message to aTm coaching staff when they don't respond to him? He's disgruntled because Sumlin got a freakin raise and the school makes money off his son? He allows a dropout to manage JM's PR? seriously? He allows the kid to quit therapy after a few visits because JM didn't want to stay off twitter, set boundaries, build a wall around himself? Tells the aunt to STHU at the family dinner table, and the whole family sits in odd silence till Johnny starts clowning with the granny?

Sorry, this article should have never been printed. Just shows that the dad has had zero control of this son, the son has no respect for his family, and neither one is very mature.

That's all I really care for people to realize. It's completely fair to say he hasn't handled his fame well. It's fair to say he's immature and needs to grow up a little. My problem are these grown men looking for any little thing the kid does and then go comment on it like they are above it.

Most disappointed with his family. He's young and he's an idiot. That's what young people are. His parents should know better.

Don't get me wrong. They deserve the criticism for it. The thing is that nothing will change and we KNOW nothing will change, so we have to adapt to it.

Johnny and his camp just seem to have... not adapted.

His dad seems like a gigantic arse, so I'm not surprised JFF has the habits he does.

Thing is, while it's only incumbent upon us as fans to not read their muckraking, the athletes don't have that luxury.

They have to figure it out for themselves, and hopefully Johnny can figure it out pretty quickly.

Every A&M fan loved all of the attention he was getting when he dressed up as scooby doo and was hanging out with all the cool celebs.... Now that his attention isn't as pleasing it's "why won't the media leave him alone."

Hypocrites.

All this, but you left out being worried about Johnny's drinking while buying him drinks at the golf course. Wait, what?

Very revealing article. I had no idea the dad was such a nimrod.
