When you hear him speak, he sounds very articulate and mature, but his behavior, while not "bad" so to speak, demonstrates that he has some growing up to do. The "I'm only 20" excuse is weak at best, but at the same time, I remember how much of a dumbass I was at 20. I am glad most of my antics didn't make national news on a daily basis. I would have hated that.

True. The family just needs to stop talking out of both sides of their collective mouths right now. Either you want to keep Johnny under wraps or you want to give interviews to ESPN about his "plight and struggle" with all the fame. There's just no way this ends well for anyone involved. He won't listen to his dad right now. You really think he's going to give a shite about anything a teammate or Sumlin says unless he makes some big changes the next few weeks?

My thoughts exactly. Reading that piece made me really feel for the kid.

I wonder how many assholes that bash him on here have been given monikers like "johnny football" at age 19 and have the national media breathing down his neck with every move he makes.

He clearly has growing up to do, but how many priveliged (sheltered?), constantly-criticized people don't?

Cliff Notes:
Johnny is an immature brat, has anger issues, and his dad can't control him. Aggy sucks.

Did I get it about right?

How would I know if you summarized it right?

Hollytree Country Club serving alcohol to minors. Classy.

I found it strange his dad decided to quit drinking to be a better example for his son but has a nonchalant attitude towards his son drinking in his presence. I get the feeling that dad tries to be his buddy more than a disciplinarian. The kid is obviously a spoiled brat. That happened long before TAMU, Mannings, and tweets.

The thing I get out of that article most of all is just how naive his parents are. Why in hell would you go to ESPN and give an article like that? Do you honestly think it is going to HELP take pressure off of your son?

You do not go to ESPN reporters to bare your soul and then complain that you and your kid live in a bubble. Some of the complaints also make no sense. They are mad that the school makes money off of Johnny and that Sumlin got a raise? What exactly is the school supposed to do, not take advantage of having a Heisman winner? They can't pay him anything and they know that. It's not like Johnny won't be set for life if he doesn't burn bridges. JDC is a wealthy man who has lived a dream life off of his Heisman even though he was only an average NFL player, do they not understand that?

I also don't get the complaints about A&M cooperating with the NCAA in terms of compliance. Uh, they damn well better for both Johnny's sake and the school's. It is really easy to lose eligibility and A&M certainly understands that, how his Dad does not is mind boggling.

A&M is getting him counseling and as much security help as they can, what else are they supposed to do? Johnny isn't listening. He's still on Twitter and he's out "livin' the life". That's fine but it has consequences.

At this point I have no idea what is going to happen with Johnny. I hope he can keep it together. I do agree he is just a kid trying to figure it out but this is the first time I have seen where his family may be making some problems worse for him.

WTF is up with having a HS dropout run his PR btw? Really? When a kid is relying on another kid named "Uncle" anything that isn't a good sign. There is no shortage of people that would like to help Johnny and his family but they need to want to be helped.

Yep, dad is talking out of both sides of his mouth. You can't have it both ways Paul.

I don't have 30 minutes to devote to a JFF article in the offseason.

Let me guess he throws little girl temper tantrums, is upset about all the spotlight, and just wants to do what every other college kid does right?

If he really wants to live the normal college kid life he should just quit football.

Yeah, pretty much. He's an angry drunk who can't handle the pressure and just wants to be able to live a normal life of drinking himself unconscious and getting kicked out of frat parties.

Those are my feelings on the matter, and why I don't feel much sympathy for him. Most players don't get the kind of attention he does, but the second you sign a LOI to a major college football program, you are waiving your ability to have the normal college experience.

The intern whose sole job it is to refresh Johnny's twitter page every 2 seconds was told to wait 45 more minutes, and if he didn't tweet about it, then they were going to run with their story about how heartless Johnny is

to whom much is given, much will be required.

you can't have all the fame and all the privilege and expect that people won't be out for you. this isn't a new concept or something that happened when they invented twitter. sure, maybe the tech age has amped it up b/c fools don't think before they tweet but it's a pretty simple concept. you get a lot, you better be ready to take a lot.
