I thought all schools were non-state schools, except Mississippi State and Louisiana State.
And even with those, LSU doesn't really use the word "State".
therefore, there is only one "State " school in the SEC, hence why most of us call State "State".

Isn't everyone in the SEC except Vandy a State school?

Yes, but the tread was started by the same guy who gave us the West Virginia in the SEC thread. They appear to be one of God's special children, bless their heart.

How can Mississippi STATE be a non-state university? It has freaking State in it's name. I think you're actually looking for the word flagship, maybe?

Nope, that doesn't work as we are one of the two flagship universities in Texas.

There is no way to recover.

Admit Mister Tee is trolling or a slow coach. Only way to explain it and move on.

Are there advantages to being your state's "flagship university?" Are there disadvantages to not being so?

FIFY

Work on your grammar when you have a moment - it will help you down the road when you are attempting to express your thoughts or troll your buddies.

Being a Flagship University has its advantages - these days more than in the past - because of the importance of status to today's youths.

Still yet, Auburn, A&M, MSU, Vandy ... and in the ACC programs such as FSU, Clemson, NC St, Va Tech, Wake Forest, etc., etc., etc., they certainly have nothing to be ashamed of in terms of their athletics and/or academics. All, with the exception of Vandy and Wake, probably receive the same funding as does their state's flagship universities. None of them enjoy the overall prestige and honor bestowed upon tFlagship Universities ... but they do okay for themselves. Do not feel sorry for them.

One of these is not like the other

Also, I think MTSU is the biggest in TN now so the Vols would be little brothers to the Blue Raiders.

MTSU is bigger than Memphis State and UTk?

I.did.not.know.that!

So MTSU is pushing to become the USF UCF of Tennessee?

I had no idea.

Vandy and MTSU in such close proximity to one another as well.

You do fully realize that Auburn is funded by the state just like Alabama is, I hope. Auburn is not a private university. Neither is Miss St. or A&M

When in Nashville I see more and more Blue Raider gear every year. Also, seeing more bankers and judges in Nashville with MTSU degrees. They have a Nobel Prize winner in James Buchanan (economics)

MTSU is bigger than Memphis State and within 1,000 of UT in undergrad enrollment.
