State Schools:

Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama
LSU
Ole Miss
Kentucky
South Carolina
Missouri
Arkansas

Non-State Universities:
Texas A&M
Auburn
Miss State
Vandy

Are there advantages to being your "state's main, funded school" year after year over other "non-state" schools in the SEC?

You do fully realize that Auburn is funded by the state just like Alabama is, I hope. Auburn is not a private university. Neither is Miss St. or A&M.

I'm pretty sure Texas A&M and Vanderbilt don't need the taxpayers money.

Or, you could be a well-rounded university with liberal arts, law, ag, engineering and everything. The meaning of "university" is to have as many disciplines as possible.

I actually do understand. I actually went to Auburn as a Georgia native. And, as a result, the State of Alabama charged me triple tuition.. but paid $0.00 for my education for going outside of a state-funded University from Georgia to Alabama...and took my HOPE Scholarship away because UGA couldn't offer an engineering degree at the time.

All the state schools were one of the reasons I was glad to leave the SWC for the SEC. Back then that seemed to matter more with college sports then it does today.

Trash Auburn all you want, but at least we don't bow down to anyone. We have actually gone there.

If I'm reading this correctly you transferred from Georgia to Auburn? Or you were a Georgia high school resident who decided to leave the state for school?

Either way your scholarship wasn't taken from you. You made a choice knowing that it wouldn't be available to you if you went to Auburn.

Is the OP too stupid to realize that MSU, Aubutn. and A&M are all state schools?

Vanderbilt is the only private school in the SEC.

So, this means you couldn't get into Geogria Tech to pursue your engineering degree?

Several things don't make sense. Did you go to UGA? if so, why go to UGA for an engineering degree when GT is there? if you did not go to UGA then you didn't have the Hope anyway. They don't take the Hope away because a school doesn't offer a certain degree. You lose the Hope if you go out of state, or if you don't have the grades. If you lost the Hope because you went out of state they didn't take it from you, you gave it back. Surely you don't expect the state of Georgia to give you money to go to a school out of state???
