It hasn't been a huge game for anyone outside of Alabama/Tenn since the 90's.

My suggestion to my LSU friends, is quit begging like urchins to be Alabamas rival. Get off your damn knees and act like people with some pride. It is embarrassing the way you plead, and grovel, and sniffle, and act like a little passive aggressive temper-tantrum twits wanting to be Alabama's focus, as they are yours.
Good god, don't you all have any dignity at all? Quit leg-humping Alabama for god's sake. It is demeaning.
I live down here. I can attest that few LSU fans "get it" because they can not imagine anyone being more intense about another SEC team than about LSU... just like they cannot imagine other SEC teams recruiting as much talent as LSU.
I know it is sad, but it's true...that is what they think! Being isolated at the edge of the conference, living on what amounts to an island, has completely warped the average LSU fan's perspective.
However, the good is that Ole Miss and aTm are going to begin beating LSU regularly as the full decline sets in. Eventually the LSU fans may have to pay attention to teams that actually give a shite about them. Then the trolling of Alabama boards may finally decline.

Bama fans really do hate Tennessee. When we're shitty they hate us; when we're good they hate us. I respect this.

quote:That's because they have been the primary competition during different periods and have been filled with great games. Everyone knowing Ole Miss is LSU's old traditional rival doesn't mean that they think of them as a current big game. That whole segregation thing ending really put a damper on the Rebel's program.
I'd be willing to bet that if you started a thread today asking who LSU's main rivals are the vast majority of LSU posters would list Bama first before Ole Miss. And if you went back 10 or so years and asked the same question they would have listed Auburn first before Ole Miss. But on the other hand neither Bama nor Auburn fans would have really ever listed LSU as a true rival.

You're a goddamned scholar and gentleman.

No one is begging
You like to think that we are begging and that everyone outside of the state of alabama just dies to have these rivalries like you--but we don't

I love the UF game, though I don't hold any special hatred for them like UA claims to have against UT
UA and UT have played every year except 2 since 1901. There is a source of the hatred.

but I also don't like an inherent disadvantage each year when our biggest division competitors get to play weaker sauce.
like UGA seems to always do? I hate that too

What a complete dumass statement! Same thing could be said about ANY and ALL of aTm's games against anyone... including Texas.
Since when has the definition of a "huge rivalry game" been the subject to a national vote? Who gives a shite what some school in Texas thinks about this game.
Shooo boy... go play SMU or someone, and leave the core of college football rivalries, such as Mich v OS, Standford v Cal (The Big Game "give'm the ax, the ax the ax"), Florida v Georgia, etc. to those who have some sense of history.

I will never understand how fans of SEC schools can have such lack of respect for traditional rivalries. I do understand it is, in a large part, a matter of convenience -- it serves their purpose to trivialize or marginalize a rivalry when they want to make a point that favors them. But it's still ridiculous. These are games that have been played between teams for decades. Sometimes for a century or more, and with most of them, they have been fairly competitive taken in toto over that span.
Put it this way. Right now, LSU and Bama are locked in an intense battle of premiere programs in the nation. We can argue forever whether or not it qualifies as a "rivalry" but if we come back in, say, 30 years and one or the other is no longer as competitive, we're going to get some 18 year old kid whose parents are currently discovering what pubes are spouting off about how Bama/LSU is meaningless and has no real history, and we're going to look at that kid like he's a complete fricking moron for not realizing football started before the year 2038. The point is, these games have a history and a tradition, and a few off years changes that not a whit. If this weren't the case, there would be damned few rivalries worthy of the name...no program, team, athlete, coach, whatever, has an uninterrupted history of success, much less two different programs managing to sustain one.
