The "streakish" nature of the rivalry is probably adding to why so many LSU fans don't see it as major. Most of us remember Tennessee and Florida fighting it out in the late 90's because that game determined who was going to win their division (usually Florida). With Tennessee and Alabama, it has not been that frequent in the last 30 years that both teams were nationally prominent. But Tennessee/Florida is really not much of a rivalry across the history of the conference. It's a lot like the older Bama fans who hate Notre Dame - at this point you have to be pretty far along in years to remember and resent the times Notre Dame kept us from winning it all.

I grew up in the 70's and remember ND simply had Bama's number back then. I was just a kid but remember my mom and all my aunts and uncles being just pissed off as hell about it.

I think you make a good point though. These younger fans simply don't know their SEC history and thus are missing out on a lot of what SEC football is all about. I'd bet the vast majority of these younger ones don't even realize that historically LSU is not really considered a rival by any SEC team other than Ole Miss.

You right, I'm done with it. It just gets old after awhile.
You realize that about 90% of the schedule posts are made precisely because it's so easy to get y'all's panties in a wad at this point, right? I guarantee that if they didn't receive such a reaction that they'd disappear virtually overnight.

How many games does LSU have to lose before the schedule ceases to be the blame? 3? 4? All of them?

Since LSU was forced to play those world beaters, UF & UG, that have now turned into doormats you'd think LSU fans would STFU about schedules. But it isn't meant to be.

In the beginning, they inspired heated discussion and many disagreements between fans and fanbases.

Now, however, they've become hackneyed enough that even other teams' fans have started bitching and bashing OPs when they crop up.

At some point, you have to realize that it's gone from being a real point of contention to something that's just irritating due to the frequency with which it's brought up. Yeah, it might rustle jimmies, but not for the reason that a lot of posters would like to think.

Does anyone not realize that? I don't know of anyone who actually claims we have a rival anymore - Ole Miss is the closest thing, simply b/c of our history. But the results on the field in the last decade have diminished that greatly, despite Les Miles' best efforts to keep it going.

To be fair, I think LSU's lack of a legitimate rival is part of why so many LSU fans struggle to understand the rivalry between Alabama and Tennessee. Add in the unfair situation from Bama benefitting from a weaker schedule last year, and a lot of assumptions get made.

It's posted about in threads that have nothing to do with it much more than it's actually brought up by LSU fans, FWIW. Which is quite impressive given the fact that there are about 90 times the amount of LSU fans here than fans of other schools.

You mean when someone responds to an OP with some variant of "schedule thread"?

They've sort of become an in-joke at this point.

Not a particularly funny one I'll grant you, but an in-joke nonetheless.

No one struggles to understand what a rivalry is but you knuckle draggers legitimately think you're being original when you repeat it ad nauseam.
