You know who else gave up 62 in a big game that season?

Yeah and Texas was winning while Colt McCoy was playing.

BS. McCoy was knocked out on Texas' 5th offensive play and the score was 0-0; and, as he was so important to the Texas offense, their coaches should've known better than to expose him to a physical defense by running him. No one knows what would've happened if he hadn't gotten hurt...Bama's whole defensive game plan was based on McCoy at QB...they pretty much played vanilla D the rest of the game as they didn't know what the Texas O would run without McCoy...

McCoy was a great college QB (his junior year was much better statistically than his senior year)...but he struggled in big games during the 2009 regular season. Against Oklahoma and Nebraska, he played poorly and Texas won in spite of him...there was no guarantee he'd have lit up Bama in the championship game...

And for those makin' the argument 'bout how Bama would've lost if McCoy hadn't gotten hurt, you could turn that on its head and say Texas shouldn't have even been there. In their win against OU, Sam Bradford was hurt early in the game (knocked out for the season) while OU was up 6-0...and Texas barely came back to win that game...
