But that argument doesn't hold up when the difference in strength of schedule is nearly negligible.

1996 Florida had to go into Tallahassee, one of the toughest places to play in the 90s, to play #2 Florida State in the last game of the regular season. The toughest game Tennessee played on the road in '98 was against Georgia. They finished #14 that year.

We also had to go to Syracuse, who was the Big East Champ and had Donovan McNabb

Bruh, McNabb had 30 total TDs in 1998 and Syracuse went 8-4 and was ranked #25 in the final AP poll. Quit acting like you beat some titan of college football.

A stadium that seats less than 50,000 people to play a team that finished 8-4 and just inside the Top 25.

So what? I agree Florida had the tougher schedule, but let's not pretend that their schedule was #1 and Tennessee's was #113, the huge disparity just isn't there.

Sorry.

I remember the time well. The Orangemen of Northern New York struck fear in the hearts of college football fans across our nation. Back to back Big East championships had Syracuse poised for what most historians consider the greatest 8-4 season in college football history.

Our 96 team also made Peyton and co. quit before halftime. The quietest that Neyland's ever been.

To be fair, he only played in the fourth quarter in 94.
That 96 game was 35-0 before the half. I still don't understand to this day why Spurrier and Stoops called off the dogs in the second half.

What do you mean "finally admit" that? I never denied it

Most of y'all seem to be confused as to the question posed by the OP. He wants the BEST TEAM, not the most talented team. There's a big difference.

All the teams listed have plenty of talent, but the BEST TEAMS also had the BEST CHEMISTRY. For instance, 2010 Alabama had more talent than 2009, but not nearly the chemistry and lost 3 games as a result.

My pick for best ever is 2011 Bama, those kids were extremely talented and all on the same page.

Don't forget 95 UF if you're only talking regular season and not counting the 96 Fiesta Bowl that never happened. We beat up 2 teams that finished in the top 5.

Edit: Never mind, I can't read.
