I think the winner could be LSU if the timing works out with Herman. However, he is a wildcard as he is young and may have the NFL itch

That's the problem with hiring a hot name coach in their forties. You never know if they'll stay for more than a few years before trying the NFL.

at least getting to Atlanta in a consistent basis.

We got to Atlanta 1/3 of CMR's tenure. While not as consistent as we'd like it was still more than any other team in East and 2 other teams who didn't '(07 and '14) both had top 10's ('07 was top 5)

expectations are much higher at Bama, LSU, Florida, and maybe even Auburn.

Bama yes,but its absurd to think any of the other schools have higher expectations. We still have more
SECC's than UF,AU and LSU.

You make it sound like all Auburn should have done over the last decade is throw loads of money on the coaching staff and that would have somehow been able to pull the AU Big 3 sports up out of the SEC cellar?

Have y'all seriously had a string of 10-12 coaches in the Big 3 men's sports over the last 10 yrs that were hampered from fielding a winning program because of their salary?

Two Championship appearances in the last 5 years proves it can be done, even without a high profile coach. AUs baseball success is not much different than Bama's, mainly because of some State dictated barriers. Basketball is on the raise because of the new Auburn Arena and the hiring of Pearl. They should pay dividends the next two years.

Yes, Auburn could have had more stability in its programs if they would spend money up front when hiring a coach. Ever since hiring Bowden, then TT, followed by Chizik, AU hired a bargain rate coach, paid him big after early success, then fired him with a large buyout. The model in the future has to be Pearl.

Our second miss was Spurrier. Everyone knows the story we passed on Spurrier for Archer

Alabama,Southern Cal and Texas had job openings that season, too. Spurrier's phone wasn't ringing off the hook and went to Duke. He still would have gone to Florida after the '89 season.

The Spurrier-LSU deal is a real non-story.

Since Dooley retired? I would say that the expectations of UGA's fans have been tempered considerably in the last 25-30 years by the lack of consistently winning a championship.

The top 4 jobs in the SEC imo are Bama, LSU, UGA and UF. All are great. Bama is the most committed to winning.

I'm talking the last 15 years and CMR was almost every bit a successful as VD when you look at his 15 years and VD's first 15. There's very little differnce plus VD had the luxury of a 6 game sec schedule with Uk,Vandy,Ole Miss every year.

Not by a long shot.Especially when schools all around
us are winning NC's

I always feared a Bobby Petrino type coming in there and cleaning house with the fans and administration, and shutting down the boarder to recruiting.

Fans have stepped up, admin has stepped up, and recruits are noticing.

Virtually no in-state competition and a major metro in Atlanta. Georgia probably does edge out LSU in terms of recruiting advantages.

I would give LSU the edge due to lack of surrounding FB powers to deal with and likey more state pride with the residents.

UGA proves it has high expectations by the firing of its past 2 coaches.

It might be the best job in the SEC, of course there is not a FSU in state to recruit against like UF has too. Auburn of course has always recruited the state well and is usually UGA's top competition for big time players. Surprisingly Bama really has not recruited the state well in the Saban era, Warmack and Drake might be the top players they have plucked from GA.

Bama recruits nationally, they've taken the top 1 or 2 players from multiple states. When you recruit Cali, Iowa, Virginia, Maryland, Louisiana, Texas, New Jersey, and the South you are covering some wide territory.

Not really prior to Saban. They would get a player from the North on occasion, but winning has opened up for Saban to recruit those other states.

Nick Saban also said Derek Dooley was doing a good job at UT....

“I think Tennessee’s team really played hard,” Saban said. “I think that Derek is doing a fantastic job. They have been better and better every year that we’ve played them. We were fortunate today that our defense played well enough to keep their high-powered offense to just 13 points.”

Yes, but when everyone else poaches the state , having less instate competition doesn't matter. Florida, Florida state, Alabama, auburn, ole miss, tennesse, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Clemson, South Carolina, and North Carolina all consider Georgia a little place to get a bunch of recruits.

It's still a HUGE advantage to be the flagship institution in a state that produces 250+ FBS
scholarships every year. These kids obvoiusly get more
exposure to UGA than any school that surrounds Georgia

Look at a roster under Bryant, Perkins, or Stallings. Winning does tend to do that. That's kind of how it works.
