Very good point.

This move sounds more like A&M trying to prove they can spend money too because Texas is about to drop some serious money for their new head coach.

It's also a flawed characterization.

For the record, it makes me chuckle that--once again--it's the non-Ags who continue to introduce the horns into a conversation.

The current narrative: Sumlin is a horrible coach and A&M is overpaying him.

Who said he is horrible? Do you just find it easier to argue from extremes?

I'll agree with the over paying him part though.

The characterization of Sumlin as a coach is not limited to this thread.

Seemingly overnight, the narrative did change from 'Sumlin gone' to 'Sumlin sucks.'

Typical Rant shite. It's to be expected. No worries.

I just have to ask how fricking drunk the administrators are at A&M.

Sumlin took A&M to the cleaners. Lots of money for a guy who hasn't even made it to a BCS game.

Hypothetically, if Sumlin was offered $5M by USC, and Sumlin told A&M to match it or he was leaving, do you honestly think the best move would be to just let him leave and start over? Nevermind owning the state of Texas in recruiting like never before, or ramping up a $450M stadium renovation as we speak.

You'd really lose Sumlin over say a million a year, just because to pay 5 would be "over paying"?

Lol. You realize we could buy your little school 12 times and still have way more $$ than LSU right?

One team in Texas goes 8-4, head coach gets $5 million a year. Another team in Texas goes 8-4, their coach is about to be fired.

A&M in a dick measuring contest with UT.

Aggies just wasted a lot of money on a mediocre coach. 8-4 is championship for the aggies

Exactly. Can you imagine what he is going to be demanding when he actually does accomplish something? Aggies better get ready because it isn't going to stay $5 mill for the length of this contract, he already can tell the admin are pushovers.

"Oh we can afford it!! hurr, durr!" Yeah, I am sure the BOR wants to sink all that endowment money into a damn football staff. Just so you guys realize, no BOR on the planet wants to spend a single dime of endowment money on athletics and the people that put most of that money in the endowment would flip out if very much starts going that way. The ones still alive, at least. Quit acting like they are going to just carve a few billion out for facilities and coaches. This is a huge payday for Sumlin, TAMU just massively overpaid and the people in the administration are not just kicking back acting like it is no big deal because "we've got the money".

Congrats on locking him down. I don't think it was anywhere close to worth it but it seems to make you guys happy.

Your opinion and quite possibly the correct one but I personally have adopted a wait and see attitude about it all. This is the world we live in and if we think he is the answer then it's the right thing to do. Again jmo

Could be worse. We could be paying a coach $5 million/year after going 5-7 and 8-5 in consecutive years instead of 11-2 and 9-4...
