The current narrative: Sumlin is a horrible coach and A&M is overpaying him.

It's entertaining, for sure.
I keep returning for more.

No one is saying Sumlin is a horrible coach but he's definently done nothing to designate him a 5 million dollar coach
Look, it's your money aTm. May as well spend it on Sumlin else you'll just go and get more Yell leaders

His employer disagrees.
You said it: It's maroon money.

A&M is paying $100,000 less for Sumlin than what Arkansas paid to make Bret Bielema their head coach.*
*Including the buyout paid to Wisconsin. Money well spent, right?

Y'all gon' regret that...Sumlin is over-rated...

So the agenda here has gone from "Sumlin is leaving for the NFL/USC" to "aggy paid too much to keep Sumlin"
Seems about right

Why?
My guess would be that the University doesn't want to go through the same media circus it went through w USC, every time a coaching vacancy pops up. As the blurb says, they wanted to put their money where their mouth is by demonstrating a "sincere, long-term commitment."
quote:
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M University officials announced a sincere, long-term commitment to Aggie football head coach Kevin Sumlin Thursday after executing a six-year contract extension for Sumlin following a telephonic meeting of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

Except Arkansas isn't paying Bielema 5 million every single year. He will be making 3.2 million next year. So yeah, it's not even close to being the same thing.

No one said USC was making a good move if they did that.
Turns out USC never offered, might have been for the best.

And 2B's had B10G success including divisional titles and BCS trips

I was only speaking about this year, not about the length of the contract.
Hence the asterisk.

This year doesn't matter. It's not even remotely the same thing. His SALARY is 3.2 million regardless of the year.

What I have in common with Sumlin?
