This thread should be linked in the 'why does auburn need acceptance thread'. Look at us! Look at us! Shower us with praise!

What the frick are you wanting from this thread? Do you honestly think ANYBODY, auburn fans included, any single person on this website would have said before the season "I think AU will have 1 loss, win the west, win the SEC, and play for the national title"? No, of course not. Basically you want everyone on here to say "yes yes we were wrong about how incredible and awesome gus is!! He's the best!!"

Why? Everyone knows he's good. We can all see what he's done and how valuable he is. I don't understand why you need random strangers to type that out as well to somehow validate you.

In four or five years, once Bart Bulumia gets "his players in his system" and they get bowl eligible, Arkansas will prove to you that you where wrong.

It's a message board, hoss. It's not meant to validate, it's meant to talk shite

That's what this site is for? Well I've been doing it all wrong then.

Go to hell.

I thought he would be a good coach, but I didn't expect him to win the SEC in his first season.

And you want AU board access? Melt hard WG. It's an honest question in the OP that many other non-AU fans haven't had a problem answering..you on the other hand....

I was excited from day 1. Didn't expect this but I never thought it was impossible. I remember listening to Fbaum and hearing Bammers say we should've went after Kirby because he was a " more proven" coach than Gus.

I'm still not totally sold, tbh. I need to see more than 1 year. Right now Auburn is riding an emotional wave that will be really tough or impossible to duplicate year to year. Ask Gene Chizik.

Not the answer you were expecting, huh.

I was meh on the Malzahn hire. I thought he had a chance to be a really good head coach, but I thought it was a big risk considering where we were. I wanted the AD to think bigger and do better. It appears I was wrong.

Only time will tell. How did it work out for that other coach that won 1 and then was done?

I was very skeptical. I still have this constant fear that we're going to start HUNH 3-outs as i watch our already not so good defense drop from heat exhaustion in the third quarter.

I was certianly skeptical, just becuase it felt like the typical auburn safe hire.

And I used to hate how gus got too cute and killed drives back when he was OC.

Only once (when we came out throwing against UT) did those fears pop back up.

on the bus now.

That what I was thinking as well. I need more of a sample size.

The one that won it with gus as an OC?

I compeletely understand withholding judgement, but trying to draw parallels with chiz is pretty lazy becuase you're only looking at the low hanging fruit.

True.

Not well, but it took a perfect storm of Cam Newton and tons of experienced seniors for AU to have that 2010 season and also a perfect storm of losing all of that experience (25+ players) and not having a competent QB to ruin that coach. I don't think Chiz was the primary reason for the NC, but he also wasn't as bad as 2012 made him look.

Anyway, Gus is in a pretty different situation as far as personnel coming back to follow this year up. Also, he has a very consistent track record as far as putting a very good offense on the field. He may not replicate this season again, but he is even less likely to have a 3 win season.

There was a solid split between auburn fans, that's for sure.

Lots liked gus
Lots liked petrino
and a good bit wanted kirby.

In hindsight I think we made the best choice (becaue no matter who we hired 'sample size' would still be the go to retort)
