Not really, it has moved there only recently. If you were born when it moved to Hoover then you still wouldn't be old enough to drink.

I think it is absolute bullshite that it is in Ala-freaking-bama every damned year now. I remember traveling to different college stadiums to watch the SECt; I remember going to it at LSU. That was awesome, by the way.

And stop with this "centrally located" crap... if that's your argument then why does Atlanta get the SEC Football Championship every year?

Lets face it, there are a number of college stadiums in the SEC that could easily hold the SECt... there's always a bunch of empty seats at Hoover. (They can claim all the "paid attendance" they want, can claim that this year broke some record; but the Box could have easily done the same thing. After all, a large portion of people only go to see their team.)

Let it rotate. Yes, I'll bitch when I have to fly to SC or FL; but that'll be madeup when I get to drive 12 min to watch it at Alex Box. I see no reason, in this day and age, to not move it around... it's not like we're having to ride the steam engine train to the park.

Nashville just got a new Sounds "stadium". It's nice and folks like coming here.

the new Sounds stadium is top notch. Hoover's location is convenient, but there's nothing to do there after the game.

Bingo. I also love the "no one will come if it's elsewhere" argument that is thrown out at times. I would be willing to bet that if you dropped it in to Memphis that you would actually have more folks attend.

Outside of South Carolina, the most active SEC fan bases reside in the West. Memphis is a shorter drive for Ole Miss, LSU, A&M and Arkansas and only like 50 miles further for State. Those are the folks that are most passionate about SEC baseball and they would show up in Memphis.

Its nice having the tournament in one location every year, but B'ham is just void of fun things...really run down imo and when I spent some time there in 1983 or so I couldnt wait to move honestly. Was there on a temporary basis and watched Doug Flutie beat Bama at Legions.

The next question is where. Atlanta has a lot to do and so does Orlando and ditto Nashville. Imo though it should not be held in a city where a SEC team has its campus...so strike Nashville. We also need to think about convenience for fans and the travel with A&M, Mizzou, LSU & Arkansas in mind. If a change is made...it needs to be for a long haul. St Louis is out...Dallas is a possibilty..but baseball should be an outdoor event.

Atlanta or Orlando make a lot of sense. For families that do travel, Mickey Mouse is a huge draw. Crime is less a factor than Atlanta imo. If someone wants to point out a western site with outdoor venue not on campus...please do. It should be fair for those teams. Weather is a factor with the tourney held in late May...Florida "usually" isnt in the rainy season yet.

Keep in mind that baseball is a family game and a lot of women and kids follow it and enjoy it. We may have a really nice arena for the tourney thats not yet built or even planned and then when it does arrive we will have a great place to have an event.

I don't think we played it in 1983 there although it's possible Alabama used it back then and that's what you could be thinking of. I think the first time was 1990 and several other times until it became THE place the last 20 years.

I say this while reading an Lsu fan calling me out about how it just recently got moved to Hoover Met because I am stupid and too young to drink.

Because just like most cities in America, Birmingham is just the same in 2016 as it was in 1983

Birmingham has been on a huge upswing the last 5+ years and there is plenty to do for young people. The only young people I know that live here that don't love it are the type of hipsters that are "too cool" for wherever they are and wouldn't be happy anywhere short of LA or NYC.

But I wouldn't expect an old guy like you to find something fun to do if it bit you on the arse anyway. No offense, but if you're old enough to even remember 1983 then the only cities you'd find fun anyway are in Florida with the rest of the retirees.

Memphis is much better. We already have football in Atlanta. Have at least one event more convenient to RV'ers on the west side.

Sugar land/frisco/round rock are the worst ideas for the baseball tourney. Even tho Hoover is a subburbof Bham, Bham is one of the best markets college sports. The fans get into it, RV parking is important to a lot of the close followers. There are maybe 6 schools within a 4 hour drive from Bham.

Nashville is best for basketball tourney. Good city for events/close to the biggest fan base to sell it out. Dallas and Houston would be a big step back. Neither cities care about college sports, really hard to build hype around the event.

Atlanta is the best for football. The sec championship has become an event and Atlanta is set up perfectly for it. . Houston and Dallas would be big mistakes.

quit it with "it would be better if it was in Texas" angle. You are really showing your ignorance there. Go back to the Big 12 if you are too dumb to leave the state of Texas.

It's the best location in the SEC footprint to have it.

Having a tournament in a suburban ballpark, in order to please the folks who live within a 2 or 3 hour drive and want to take their RV, is some really weird thinking. Why on earth do we need to play the tournament at a place that is RV friendly rather than geared towards fans who fly in and would like to have a park within walking distance of hotels, restaurants, and other entertainment?

This is a far flung league, and making the hosting decision based on a criteria that is of no relevance to about 9 of the fan bases (because they are too far away to take an RV to the tournament) is ridiculous.

The only thing I miss about the Big XII was the baseball tournament venue--OKC had the perfect set up for an event like this. Memphis or Nashville would appear to have the best chance of providing a similar setup.

Coolray Field is 45 minutes northeast of Atlanta.

Event is well run and centrally located. People seem to want to move just for the sake of moving. Also probably some bama paranoia involved. Hoover is doing some upgrades I believe to that area of I'm correct so it should be even better.

Good remarks twk

If you have an RV, you can drive that thing anywhere. RV's should not be a factor.

Nashville would be an excellent site. Memphis is a little too dangerous of a city for a family to attend but geographically it would be very good as well.

As much as I would like to see an occasional visit to Texas, DFW is too BDF friendly and do not care much about the SEC. Round Rock is too close to a certain school. Houston/Sugarland is every SEC friendly but USC and Florida would be at a huge disadvantage.

I am sure Birmingham/Hoover is a nice place but not much there. Difficult to fly into.

I also agree OKC is a great place for the BDF. A lot to do there. That is why Nashville would be the perfect spot for the SEC.

Does the Nashville Chamber of Commerce care about us?

Weird as in the sense that the attendance numbers go up almost every year depending on the weather? I think I saw where the record was broken again this year. No rain and temps most days hovering in the high 80s will do that.

Hoover's central location is a big selling point. And it seems to be a well-run event. I think the biggest issues are that the location is suburban and Birmingham is just not a very exciting destination which is kind of a problem for a multi-day event.

Memphis is also pretty well located, with the added benefits of a downtown location in a city that is more of a destination.

Nashville is a fun city, but SEC fans have plenty of opportunities to visit w/ the SEC basketball tourney plus Vandy being there. And it isn't as central.

NOLA is (imo) the best destination in the SEC, but the ballpark is in Metairie and is not particularly nice. Plus it is much less convenient for a large portion of the SEC.

No way to some of the mentioned locations like St. Louis, or anything in Florida or Texas. Those just don't work well for a large majority of the fans.

It would be interesting to see some hard data on attendance. How many people drive vs fly? How many stay in hotels vs do day trips? How many stay in RVs?

I won't be upset if it stays in Hoover, but I would kind of like to see Memphis get a chance to host. And to do it right they would need at least two or three years to iron out the kinks. Maybe something like a six year contract with three each in Hoover and Memphis would be good.
