Memphis has the second biggest bar and restaurant street in the South next to NOLA. If you fail to see why that's more desirable, then you're biased as hell.
You can always stay downtown and drive to the game every morning. Not to mention if the game were in Memphis, unless you ponied up a lot of money for parking you are going to be having to park 30 minutes away.
