Teams win games in the trenches. How would you rank the combination of offensive and defensive lines in the SEC this year?

Team (OL, DL Rank)
1. Alabama (2, 1)
2. Tennessee (4, 2)
3. LSU (1, 7)
4a. Auburn (6, 3)
4b. Florida (5, 4)
6. Ole Miss (7, 5)
7. Arkansas (3, 9)
8. Texas A&M (8, 8)
9. Georgia (9, 10)
10. Missouri (14, 6)
11. Mississippi State (10, 11)
12. Vanderbilt (11, 12)
13. Kentucky (12, 13)
14. South Carolina (13, 14)

Fire away

Auburn's defensive line is really talented and really deep. I'd say they are a Top 3 defensive line in the league behind Alabama and Tennessee.

Their offensive line has some question marks, but I still think it is probably in the top half of the league.

Garret by himself should have A&M higher than 8

They get gashed at the point of attack. They rush the passer well, but until they prove they can stop the run (5 ypc last year, 13/14 in the SEC) then they stay middle of the pack. And on offense they lost 3/5 of their line.

I'd move A&M up a bit. Maybe Auburn back a spot or two. Solid list overall though.

I'd rank Auburn lower, TBH.

Huge question marks on how the offensive line will mesh and we really aren't sure who the offensive tackles will be, which might cause almost a complete overhaul (Austin Golson has already switched to LT, Xavier Dampeer to C, question mark at RT). The defensive line is by far one of the most talented units in the SEC, so I would still rank them kind of high.

Come on men - get a grip. At least take the time to do a little research.

South Carolina was 8th in the SEC in Yards per Rush at 4.39. They lost 3 of their starters from that group. South Carolina was 14th in the SEC in Yards per Rush allowed (5.13).

So you lost 60% of your starters from a mediocre OL unit and you were dead last in the SEC in rush defense last year. The other contenders for last, Kentucky and Vanderbilt, return 4 starters each (Vandy returns 3 and a previous starter who tore his ACL). I think probably Missouri should be 14 and South Carolina 13, though.

Where would you have South Carolina ranked in each category?

I think Auburn's defensive line is going to be really good this year if they all stay healthy.

DE - Lawson
DT - Russell
DT - Adams
DE - Cowart

Then Lawrence, Brown and Davidson rotating in. Those are some impressive bodies.

I'm waiting for the "April Fools!"

LSU is replacing both tackles and there could be some shuffling to get it done. I wouldn't have them at 1.

I think Devaroe Lawrence starts over Dontavius Russell in 2016.

I think he's going to have a breakout year.

Also, Jeff Holland is now at defensive end.

Yea, but one is moving over from Center. I mean, the other option is Alabama, but we replace an All-American center, so I have a hard time justifying that to myself. Am I missing another school with a large chunk of great linemen coming back? Tennessee returns a bunch, and they are pretty good, but I certainly don't think they are #1 good.

Like I said, lot of impressive bodies and good depth. Gonna be a really good unit.

Agreed.

Hopefully the significant downgrade at defensive coordinator doesn't negatively affect the defense.
