People can't seem to disassociate common Alabama fans from U of Alabama and Auburn. Both are top 50 public schools, and top 100 overall schools.

Yeah, pretty worthless. I put stock in how much graduates make and average SAT/ACT scores and GPAs of incoming classes.

And that's why you're a fricking dumbass. You think you can just choose some obscure measure and use it to convince others that your alma mater isn't the diploma mill everyone knows it really is? Fat chance, kiddo. I don't think "mid-career earnings averages" are helping you get off welfare, are they? So what the frick difference does that make? Also, are you aware that some schools are required by state legislature to provide certain colleges? The University of Alabama, for instance, has an entire college devoted to social work. Does Auburn? No. Do you think people in social work earn boatloads of money? No, genius, they don't. But that doesn't make their work any less meaningful than your red-eye shift at 7-11.

Also, if you were half as smart as you think you are, you'd realize that averages are bullshite - particularly when they come to test scores. Medians are what matter, genius. Averages are inflated (or deflated) by extremes. And that's why Auburn releases averages instead of medians.

UT Southwestern and Baylor in Houston are far far beyond TAMU's med school. Not even close

And they will be for the forseeable future. What A&M will do is pump out top of the facilities for the next 20 years, and specialize in certain medical fields, and it will be damn good at it.

And I was told by a well off alumni that they've grown the size of the undergraduate classes too quickly by accepting students with marginal test scores and grades in what basically amounts to a money grab. The average ACT score for an entering UA freshmen is 22. At Auburn it's a 27. TIFIW

This is false.

Alabama's average is 26. LINK

But you are correct that Auburn's is 27. LINK

THis is skewed by the focus on engineering although recent numbers show Alabama is gaining ground and taking the lead in that area as well.

All this does is show me that y'all both suck when compared to A&M.

I agree with whoever said there is a lot of regional bias in perception of degrees.

A&M, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Mizzou all have some national cachet. Maybe UGA too, to a lesser extent.

That's it.

The rest of you are well regarded in your regions and possibly with regard to a specific program (e.g. Auburn vet, engineering).

The overall rankings are pretty consistent with the top 3 or 4 in the SEC regardless of the publication or biases.

That's such a weak arguement. I could say the exact same thing about Auburn, and like you, I would have nothing but guesswork to back it up with. I'm sure the number of applicants does go up when the football program is doing well due to increased exposure but those applicants aren't limited to the unqualified. Out of state applicants and enrollment is largely driving the growth and those students are much less likely to be Bama fans. As you and others have stated, Bama has made a concerted effort to nationally recruit scholastic standouts, but you won't accept that as causing an increase in average ACT scores. No, it has to be Bama fudging the numbers.

Auburn has a higher acceptance rate and higher ACT scores, so you can not use the same arguement. And their nationally recruiting of scholastic standouts does not hold water either, Auburn had more NMS last year than bama. Bama has had to recruit students from out of state because the numbers in Alabama can not support the growth. Alabama is having to offer more money in schollies to lure the out of state students away from home schools. The numbers fudging is a factor of parents and students looking at these guides to select their future schools.
