True, but its not crazy to look at last year to project 2016. It shouldn't be the only factor but is certainly important.

Arkansas will have a better line than Ole Miss and Auburn.

I understand, but I quoted your post above yet you have Arkansas ranked #8 in the league for some reason even though they held league opponents to under 1000 yards rushing a season ago and return all of their LB's and 9/10 up front.

quote:

Arkansas was very good against the run, but they were in the bottom half in sacks

No they weren't. Arkansas had 17 sacks last season in SEC play, which was only 1 sack less than 5th place in the league in that category. Deatrich Wise returns who led the SEC in sacks in SEC games.

quote:

A&M was really good in pass rush, but was really bad against the run.

aTm ranked below Arkansas in sacks in SEC only games. aTm ranked 9th in the league.

quote:

Tennessee was bad early, but got better as the year went on in both and will have young guys a year older.

No they weren't. We've discussed this before and TN gave up a shite ton of rushing yards all year long, minus the Bama game.

LSU has a new scheme.

They're still soft up front

Yes, and Auburn now has a vastly inferior DC to the one they had in 2015.

I think Adams has been pretty underachieving relative to his potential, especially against the rush.
He has been playing out of position for the most part, IIRC.

He needs to be in the Nick Fairley role and not the Zach Clayton role, IMO.

Overall I agree, but how much is that going to effect their DL production? Of all the positions on the field, DL is probably the least susceptible to game calling of coaching. Now, whether they improve as individual players is something that will have to been seen for sure.

I rag on Kevin Steele more than any other Auburn fan, so your post doesn't really matter to me.

Arkansas was 5th in the SEC in YPA rush defense vs Power 5 teams (3.84), and only by 0.02 yards in front of LSU for 6th.

Arkansas was 9th in the SEC in Sacks Per Game vs P5 teams (1.90), 0.35 behind #8 Vanderbilt.

Arkansas was 11th in the SEC in Tackles for Loss Per Game vs P5 teams (5.30), 0.20 behind #10 Georgia.

I think Arkansas will be a really good defensive line. They could be anywhere between #3 and #8 or so.

Ole Miss returns seven of their top ten guys including 3/4 starters. One of the best pass rushers in the SEC plus an all SEC guy that didn't play last year. I'm not saying they should be higher or lower on your list but they are going to be VERY good on the defensive line. If there are that many better fronts in this league then offenses better gird their loins.

There really are that many great lines. Arkansas is going to have a great one as well but SEC is stacked.

I think defensive line play is a little less reliant on play calling and scheme than the entire offense. Just my opinion.

Most of the time I would agree. Then again...I saw Sunseri's defense running around like the keystone cops because he completely changed their scheme...If Mizzou does what they have always done, they will be fine. If the new DC tries to put his fingerprints on it by making a sweeping change somewhere, there could be issues.

That was my takeaway from looking at this. Pretty nuts. This + uncertainty on almost all of the O-lines is going to be a lot of plays being blown up at the LOS.

Pretty much, that is why I'm a little concerned with Arkansas and their offensive line. Questions at QB and Oline in this league may lead to some really low scoring games.

Which is awesome, because Alabama is damn near guaranteed to be one of the best run stopping teams in the country every single year

If you look back at our recruiting 3-4 years ago, you can see a shift towards smaller, quicker lineman. It'll still be good, but Saban made a philosophy change towards stopping spread offenses. That's why we went from barely getting any sacks, to leading the nation last year (I think the nation, but definitely the SEC).

With the abundance of really good running backs in the league hitting a 100 will be tough for most.

I expect them to be more disruptive and better against the run. However, Lawson is good against the run, but he isn't going to magically fix the run defense

Our LB's are average and it takes a great LB corps to truly have an exceptional run defense. Our DL is as talented as anyone in the country this year, IMO, but because we lack a stellar LB corps, we'll be middle of the pack. Better than last year, but still middle of the pack.
