Another problem is that DeRuyter's schemes were so complicated that often they confused the defense more than the opponents. The reason they were often in the right position in 2010 was because Michael Hodges had 3 years experience as a signal caller from that defense, both at AF and at A&M. Garrick Williams was unable to call the defense, which is why he never saw the field again after the Arkansas game despite being a 3-year returning starter.
