that isn't exactly something I would brag about....

Yes. A foam-headed mascot and Dixie are far more important to a University than being able to obtain a legitimately good education.

*hoping this was a troll post, btw.

Yeah, I had it backwards. It's a rallying cry against an issue that doesn't exist. It's the slippery slope argument's millitant arm.

It's in the report, and I don't really feel like articulating a point that was already made within it. Just Google it.

Wasn't looking to read the report.
It was a serious question.
No offense intended.
But thanks anyway.

Do Ole Miss grads resumes say "Ole Miss" or "University of Mississippi". Not trolling. Just curious.

Mine says The University of Mississippi. Ole Miss is a nickname that I frequently use and is affectionately used to refer to our University, and anyone who uses it on a professional document looks like a fool.

Half the people that are throwing a hissy fit haven't even read the report, and all it basically says is that Ole Miss is a nickname and sometime's nicknames are appropriate (a sporting event yay!!) and sometimes they're not (like a diploma).

So basically, everyone who is flipping out is a dumbass.

So having the foam-headed mascot and dixie somehow lessened the quality of the education.

We're arguing about a god damn nickname.

At what point do I have to stop paying for crimes I did not commit? I've never discriminated against anyone.

When is enough really enough?

Do we need to scrap the entire University and forget that those dark days didn't happen? They did. Lessons were learned. Move the frick on.

Instead of keeping a constant eye on the past, we should commit to memory the painful lessons learned and make forward progress. That's the real god damn problem.

Unless you have been living under a rock, this is about more than some report.

None taken. Sorry, that was a bit intense. I'm just annoyed with all of the people who are flipping out, yet haven't even taken the time to read what they're flipping out about.

LOL! Ok, Should everybody who had an ancestor who owned slaves, who has the same last name change their name? Stop side stepping the question.

Not a single family member of mine was in this country during that time. Not my problem...I don't care what their family does or does not do. That isn't side stepping a question. That's me not having to participate in a hypothetical question that does not pertain to me.

You have always been know as Ole miss rebels too.

No, we haven't. Our school was started in 1848 as the University of Mississippi. The name Rebels only started in 1936. That's 88 years of not being named the Ole Miss Rebels. We were the Mississippi Flood before that. We've actually only had the Ole Miss Rebels name for 78 years.

So....in 2024, we would be known as the Ole Miss Rebels for only half of our history. Convenient little fact that our "traditionalists" love to ignore.

Well.. It lessened the quality of education at ol... UM. So they got rid of it.

Now they need to get rid of a few more things so that the quality will continue to go up. Soon Ol.... UM will be Ivy league material!

If we followed a loud-few's request of "if you don't like it, then you can GTFO"....then yes.

Think about this on a national scale. Since the "traditionalists" hate liberals so much....why haven't people who don't agree with Obama gotten the frick out of America yet? I mean...it's the exact same logic.

irrelevant to you. What if I consider something that my university hasn't recognized for even half of it's existence as irrelevant?

Much like you pitching a pissy-fit over us only using Ole Miss for sporting events is irrelevant to what I consider important.
