Or more logical that he just wanted his guy for the position.

Which is exactly correct.

Word was he was bringing the assistant equipment manager from Bama way back in January ... and that was from the Bama camp. That the guy had to wait and fulfill his contract at Bama through Bama's spring game .... no one ever had a problem with that.

That's big business and Muschamp can hire whoever he wants.

How this was handled is what's not cool.

FWIW equipment managers from all over the country are chiming in on Facebook and Twitter in support of Matlock and how this was handled. They guy is a legend.

The optics are bad.

I remember about that, and if that was the case and was known about for a while, seems like Matlock and his staff would have been at least forewarned in advance or something, instead of having it dropped on them at the last moment.

And really I have no idea that Matlock and staff weren't told in advance, and all I'm getting from the local media reports are the same ole' bullshite that the local The State-driven media always loves to dish out by the shovel-full on any USC sports events, and then crawl back in at later dates to actually clear up and explain the bullshite they just got through reporting.

So I guess I'll wait a few days to see what the REAL story behind all this turns out to be....

I think it could be because Mushchump is an a-hole. Not an SC thing. I never cared for the guy.

I don't think you'll find many of us that didn't concede to Muschamp being an arse at times when he was hired. I think most of us were hopeful that Tanner would be able to reign in his habit of showing his arse like he eventually did with Frank Martin, another coach who obviously had a rep as an arse.

College football is a cruel business these days. We have to do it like every other team if we want to win like other teams. Nice guys finish last, unfortunately.

It's not about being nice.

WM was a terrible hire. I think the worst hire in a long time. Will he succeed? Who knows. But on paper, it's a head scratcher.

As far as Auburn hiring him for DC. That made sense. He has an established record as a quality DC.

Head coach?

Nope.

Your team is most likely going into the dumpster. Thank God for Vandy and Kentucky or your season would look like Auburn 2012.

So you're saying that Muschamp was a terrible hire but he may succeed? Maybe you should wait for the results before calling this a terrible hire. Oh well, this IS a Muschamp hate thread so I don't blame you too much. And you're right, it's not about being a nice guy. It's about winning. Period.

UF fans told everyone the same thing when we hired Boom too. Your stance is admirable. Been there bro.

Every coache makes changes when going to a new school. But equipment manager? You expect OC, DC, OL Coordinator or any number of coaching changes. I would think equipment manager would be safe, though, honestly. But, I haven't really followed changes down to that level.

And how much of this has Muschamp done? I think most on here are just going by past performance. he has always had a temper. He had Florida. One of the top 3 talent laden states in the country. You should be able to get 9- 10 wins at Florida if you just show up.

Looks like old Will has discovered how to win a National Championship at South Carolina.

Fire the Chaplain and the Equipment Manager.

we aren't going to lose or win any games because of the equipment manager

I'm sure he was a great guy but business is business. To think we have all the answers about why this happened is ignorant. We will never know.

I'm kind of surprised about how some of the SC posters were riding high on Muschamp for the recruiting and staff he's put together, only to completely turn on him because of an equipment manager??

Well please fill us in. You act like you are the most influential person in Gamecock football. You're making a fool of yourself in this thread. I also find it funny that you and Carolina girl are the moral police for how to treat people now with the way y'all talk on here

I've heard that Muschamp treats equipment guys and lower-level staff like total dogshit when he's pissed. Maybe there has been a rift forming between Matlock and Muschamp.

Frankly, I don't care that he fired the dude, or that he has handled commenting on it poorly. The culture of our entire program has needed a desperate change, and it seems to me like Muschamp has been bringing it. Who knows if it will result in wins, but at least we're not dealing with the same stale attitude that we had with Spurrier for the past 2 years. I just want to see a rejuvenated football program.

Over the fricking equipment manager who is so bad at his job it takes him 80 hrs a week to do it? You clowns deserve a 3-9 season for getting mad over an equipment manager.

It's freaking April, what has Muschamp so pissed that he'd fire the equipment guy in the offseason?

You'd rather the equipment manager get fired in September or October?
