Clearly A&M. We should have never have had the dark ages from 99 to 12.

UF started way before the 40's. Comprehension is half the battle.

You don't say?!?!

I'm just pointing out that population can't be UF's only excuse since they passed a state like louisiana in the 40s and Georgia in the 50s yet didn't win the conference until the 90s. Pretty long stretch right?

I know we are a younger group that posts here and UGA may be the most underachieving during the last 20 years. Just trying to add some pre-1990s context to all the "UGA SUXXXX!!!!1" mouth breathers

UNderstand. We actually won it in the 80's but it was removed by that sh*t stain you call a hero Dooley. But that's another issue. Most who moved to Florida during that period were old timers. You can see the population increase near the 50's and 60's being the most important. That group produced the generation of kids in state. Thats where the pipelines grew. Florida had success in the 60's. Then nothing. Miami started to pick it up late 70's, all three got it together in the 80's especially Miami because of their going into the poor areas in state and grabbing the kids no other programs would touch. That was the biggest change. The talent in Florida was in the poor neighborhoods, and no one really got these kids and gave them a chance till Howard. Once seeing this, Bowden and FSU followed suit as did UF.

I mean if UM and FSU were highly successful for a long time, your argument would be absolutely valid. But the fact that all three programs became strong at the same general time points to something had to change that helped make them relevant. All of them from the 80's on are basically the top tier programs...or were till Miami started sucking. Once the gateway opened, Florida became the Marquee state of CFB.

I think recently yes. Auburn could be there too. They had the same exact talent pool as Bama. Yet are so far behind a team in their own state.

Wut? Auburn is a constant overachiever compared to recruiting

The answer to this question is UGA and there is not even a close second place.

You lost every SEC game last year and have the third most talent apparently.

Hope both of my Jort brethren enjoy #3 in a row that will be served up this November. More than happy to propose a signature bet or ban bet with either of yall.

Any takers?

Most underachieving football program in the SEC

Ole Miss.

Look at the demographics of their state. The state of Mississippi is slam packed with potential college football talent, don't tell me you can't fill up 85 scholarships and compete for the West every once in a while.

I understand the Georgia votes, but at least UGA is competitive and has won the SEC twice in the last 9 years, and been to the game 5 times. It's a shame we couldn't follow through on all of them, and didn't get a shot at the NC both times we won the SEC, but cest la vie.

Biggest underachiever has to be Ole Miss, followed by Miss St, followed by Georgia, I suppose.

Yes it is....but his point was that you had the state to yourselves until around the 80s, and you had passed Georgia and Louisiana in the 40s and 50s in population, yet did nothing in the SEC until the 80s.

Of course, as someone above pointed out, a LOT of the population influx came from seniors retiring. I'm not entirely certain how you can answer this question. I mean, MOST major programs pull from all over the country, not just their own state. You can argue that Flordia competes with UGA, AU, UA, Miami, FSU as a whole for in state talent. On the other hand, UGA competes with all of those and SoCar and Tenn...
this is a lesson in futility to make somebody feel better about their own program.

The Texas A&M poster also made a legitimate point that THEY are the most underachieving. It all boils down to NOBODY is completely happy unless they win the Natty every year!

I thought it was removed because of NCAA violations.
