Wouldnt be the first time a parent, especially a father, had a very hard time with the news that his son is homosexual.

Any parent that says they wouldn't have a hard time accepting their child is homosexual is a liar IMO.

He probably could have articulated his displeasure in a different way, besides saying he couldn't eat anymore so he went to get drunk.

Why? He was just being honest and open about himself as well. How come Sams gets kudos for being open and honest, but his dad could have articulated himself in a different way?

Not agreeing or disagreeing with either the son or the father here, I just don't understand the reasoning behind your comment?

The first thing I'd do is tell my son "I love you and I support you" if he came out. But I'm not going to sit here and say it wouldn't make me want to drink.

I don't think the question is to drink or not. Never mind.

I would just tell my son that I love him, and that I don't support the gay lifestyle, but he and his bf are still welcome at my house during Christmas or any other day. I would immediately head to church.

If finding out his son is gay sent him to binge drink at Applebee's, wonder where the news that he wont be having grandkids send him

Actually, that's sad. it shouldn't be that way.

I agree, but also most of his kids are dead, or in jail, so there's a lot of hurt in that home.

I just pray I never have to face that as a parent.

Did Sam come out and say I like dicks in my butt?

No, he had a sense of decorum about his honesty, so bad analogy.

His dad could have said a number of things that showed his genuine displeasure in an honest way that didn't include 'I couldn't eat anymore so I went to get drunk'

That really sucks. But the man has his views. He shouldn't be criticized for them.

He has a right to say whatever he wants to. He does not have the right to be free from criticism for said views. Nobody does.

Why do you assume this?

That's not as ignorant as assuming somebody is poor, drunk, or stupid for being upset that his son is gay.

The biggest news out of this is someone actually goes to fricking Applebees to get drunk.

Missouri people do y'all really have no better drinking establishments anywhere?

This is also the class act that took one of his other sons to Mexico to lose his virginity with a hooker as a young teenager. Seems like his decisions and reactions speak volumes about who he really is. He also said Deacon Jones would be turning over in his grave at the thought of a gay player in the NFL. Enlightened soul, the elder Mr. Sam.

this is starting to sound like a cheesy Bravo reality show where advertisers slip in promos in unsuspecting ways
