From worst to first in the SEC. Simply amazing the turnaround that he accomplished in the past 12 months.

2015 - 24-30 (8-22) last in the SEC
2016- 40-14-1 (21-9) SEC champs

People say this, but isn't that the point of starting young guys/having a terrible year? You went to Omaha the year before, start young guys and suck, but then get back on track a year later.

Its amazing to me that people who frequent a sports message board cannot get simple things right from the past four years. Even our fans screw this up. Maybe our fans want to forget that regional that was handed to us with a Ole Miss-MSU Super Regional on the line.

2013: National Runner Up.
2014: Blew a regional handed to us at ULL.
2015: Sucked.
2016: SEC Champions.

I agree. Remarkable turnaround. Has never happened before IIRC.

Of all of the stats people mess up on this board in terms of accuracy, saying State was CWS #2 in '14 instead of '13 is one of the mildest.

Pretty much.

Mainieri replaced 8/9 position players, has 2 seniors on the entire team (neither of which are starters), and is in the Top 10 RPI.

Should just go to the coach of the best team. Who cares if they sucked last year?

Only problem I can see with this is Cohen was also in charge of the worst team as well. Weren't they supposed to be a lot better last year, but he managed to underachieve and land them in last place. It would be different if he had just taken over for a different coach and brought them to first.

So you'd be okay with Nick Saban winning COTY practically every year?

Cohen was one of the few coaches that recruited to the changes in the game. He brought in small ball players and pitchers that catered to the small ball philosophy. He looked ahead of the game when he took us to the Championship series in 2013.

Fast forward and he didn't change his recruiting strategy in time to keep up with the changes in the bats and the ball, thus our last place finish last year. We were still playing small ball with terrible Adidas bats and got passed up pretty quickly.

He realized what was going on and basically overhauled an entire roster in one year. We now have several power bats and high velocity pitching instead of pitching to contact.

He is a great coach, and he deserves COTY.

Not saying he doesn't deserve it. I would have zero problem with him winning. Just saying the worst to first argument kinda doesn't apply. You have a very solid program. One year was an aberration. He didn't forget how to coach then remember this year.

This has always been the biggest crock in threads. Cohen does not like to walk batters, Period! It's why he's pulled pitcher fast when they've lost control. Nobody in the SEC has a pitcher who has not hit a batter. It's absurd to think Cohen wants a free runner on base.

John Cohen is a great coach. But if he was a football coach doing the same "roster management" stunts he pulled, it would be national news on a daily basis. Look at Saban and how butthurt rivals get over his perceived "oversigning," (which doesn't really happen,,,but when/if it does, you're talking about 1-2 guys every couple years).

So sure, Cohen "overhauling" his entire roster---did some kinda shitty things to several kids, too...but he's winning so at the end of the day, what can you say?

I'd side with Maineri as coach of the year...after losing his entire lineup sans Fraley...he's mixed and matched and had a great season, despite the fact the pitching hasn't lived up to what many believed it would be coming into the season. Lange wasn't close to dominant like he was all of last year. Nothing from Latz, McKay, Riley Smith, etc. Lost Cartwright. Bugg, Norman, Stallings not as dominant as expected. Got big things from Gilbert. etc.
