Some of you Barners are so mindfricked it's unbelievable. You abandon all logic because it's so painful to admit a coach at Alabama is better

PrisonMike has probably bent over and picked up a few bars of soap too many.

That mindset of theirs is lil bro defined. The truth for them hurts like hell and it always has.

he's an alumnus who played on the team. He has proven he's a winner and a great recruiter. If he's the first call we make when Saban retires, he will take it. An average coach is gonna have success with what Saban is gonna leave behind, dabo would be perfectly capable of keeping it going

I hope Dabo would take the job, but after winning a title at Clemson and having success there for so long, would he really leave them in the dust?

Jeff Scott

The OC at PSU

Those are the next up and coming coaches. The coach at Colorado is solid as well.

I dont blame him. Without a doubt Dabo has earned being the number one target.

Bama would be stupid to not offer Dabo the job immediately. Sure hes not Saban, but neither is anyone else

The way I understand it is he was living in Tuscaloosa when he was hired to Clemson. Selling real estate of all things.

I live in Pensacola, Fla....that doesn't make it my home town. Tuscaloosa's my home town.

Agreed. And by the time Saban retires, most others won't either.

Everyone says Dabo. But Dabo is in an easier conference, has built a strong contender, and has far less pressure than following Saban. I just don't see it happening. He has it made right now in Clemson.
True. The only saving grace is that he is a Bama boy and alum. Maybe, just maybe he is cocky enough to think that he can step in and not miss a beat

Man, I hope so. I guess Bama fans forget that not long ago, Clempson fans were ready to run him out of town. Chad Morris and Deshaun Watson saved his arse. You will see this year.

He's won at least 10 games for 6 straight seasons. Did Watson have that much eligibility?

Dabo had one bad year at Clemson, but otherwise it's been 9 wins, 10 wins, 11 wins,11 wins, 10 wins, 14 wins, 14 wins.

You don't really want a guy like him with his recruiting capabilities who has learned and improved elsewhere (and won a national title) to walk into Tuscaloosa after Saban and inherit that full cupboard.

Dabo is of the Saban mold. Looks great with top players and struggles without them.

as opposed to those great coaches who win with bad players?

I guess you missed where I said Chad Morris and Deshaun Watson.

He's 3-5 against USCe in that timespan too. Forgive me if I don't think beating teams like Duke, NC State, etc. is very impressive.

I think a few of our Alabama brethren need to pump the brakes a bit on Dabo. He's a good, possibly great, coach, but we need to see sustained success outside of the last 2 seasons from him at Clemson. If he can continue competing for ACC titles and Playoff berths until Saban retires, then fine.

I think a lot of the PTB at Alabama are watching Dabo very closely at this point to see what trajectory his coaching career takes from here.

I look at what David Cutcliffe did at Duke. He gets fired from a middle of the pack SEC Program and takes over the worse program in the ACC. He takes them to 4 straight Bowl (8 in their history prior). I look at the turnaround at Miami by Mark Richt last year. You can even look at the quick success Petrino has had this time around with Louisville. It is easier to build success and maintain it in the ACC than it is in the SEC.
I can not remember the last time an SEC Team hired an ACC HC Coach to take over a program and was successful in recent history. Spurrier was over 25 years ago and Charley Pell was over 30 years ago. I'm trying to remember any coach hired away from an ACC Program that was successful in College Football. I know Coughlin did well in the NFL after his two years in BC.

No clue why you were downvoted. I've heard this from other posters who claim to know Dabo.

I guess it's a matter of timing too. If Saban retired this off-season, I doubt he'd have made the jump. Also, if he had a couple 4-5 loss years right before Saban retired, he might not be the only candidate.

I know the family. Even had some business dealings with his half-brother. I've heard the same thing. But it's not like it's some groundbreaking news. Anyone with half a brain could infer the same by just paying attention.

who hired him? Do coaches not get credit for recruiting the good players and hiring the good coaches who help their team win? (you can make selective arguments on almost any coach - example: Gus without Cam, or w/out Prayer in Jordan Hare & Kick Six. he's had ONE good season as HC)

quote:

He's 3-5 against USCe in that timespan too

he's 4-5 against them in his career as HC at Clemson, including winning the last 3 in a row. He seems to have turned the corner. (again, using your team as a comparison, Gus is 2-6 against his two biggest rivals, including 0-6 in the last 6 against them)

quote:

Forgive me if I don't think beating teams like Duke, NC State, etc. is very impressive.

What about being 2-0 against AU, beating LSU in the 2012 bowl game, beating Ohio St in the 2013 bowl game, beating Oklahoma (40-6) in the 2014 bowl game, beating Oklahoma in the 2015 playoffs, beating Ohio State (31-0) in the 2016 playoffs, and beating Bama for a national title in the 2016 playoffs? Do you think beating teams like that is impressive?

Might happen. I hope so. I doubt you'll be as happy having to play him every year with a stocked roster and his ability to recruit his home state as you are pretending to be on a message board tho
