He already has. 3 years prior to Watson:

2011 10-4
2012 11-2
2013 11-2
Maybe so, but most of those wins were against mediocre ACC opponents. I'm not saying that he doesn't have some big wins in there, but I want to see how he does in an improved ACC with a bullseye on his back for once.

Everyone says Dabo. But Dabo is in an easier conference, has built a strong contender, and has far less pressure than following Saban. I just don't see it happening. He has it made right now in Clemson.

Yeah

We all know how these highly successful, ultra motivated, ultra competitive alpha coaches at the top of their field are all looking for the cushiest, easiest path

So true

Dabo is of the Saban mold. Looks great with top players and struggles without them.

I agree. Nick has been so fortunate to have so many great players.

I wonder who gets those players for him?

I know one of the folks responsible for hiring him to Clemson and we discussed this very thing awhile back. Let's just say when I suggested that Dabo would be Alabama's next coach there was zero disagreement. It's no secret that he would love to coach in Tuscaloosa. It's his home town for Christ's sake.

Alabama fans absolutely enraged that you would suggest he'd turn down an offer from mama

You're one of the very few that understands that. Dabo will not want anything to do with the pressure of trying to follow Saban.

I have a friend whose family is very, very close to Dabo's family.

He wants the job, but only if he is the only candidate. He doesn't want to be the 2nd or 3rd choice and with his resume I don't blame him.

We'll see if that is true sooner or later

No clue why you were downvoted. I've heard this from other posters who claim to know Dabo.

I guess it's a matter of timing too. If Saban retired this off-season, I doubt he'd have made the jump. Also, if he had a couple 4-5 loss years right before Saban retired, he might not be the only candidate.

An average coach is gonna have success with what Saban is gonna leave behind, dabo would be perfectly capable of keeping it going

This is a great admission that Saban is only a small part of the success at Bama. The "things" that go on behind the scenes are what has made Bama the powerhouse it is. That won't stop with Saban's tenure. Moreover, everybody else in the NCAA has the right to feel like they are fighting an uphill battle when it comes to winning championships. That's what makes the CFB Championship all the more significant, when somebody besides Bama wins.

The way I understand it is he was living in Tuscaloosa when he was hired to Clemson. Selling real estate of all things.

They accidentally skipped over a gator and another tiger. Bama's problem, nobody's going to want to follow Saban.

Dabo's resume' gets more impressive each season. He's taken Clemson to the pinnacle. The only test left is how well he can maintain that level of success and the test starts in 2 weeks. You know he has a dream job out clause in his contract for one school. If it were a decision for today, I'd be shocked if he wasn't the first candidate called. But it's not for today and a lot could change between now and then. My only wish is that Greg Byrne is the one conducting the hiring. The man is great at his job. The next call probably goes to Jimbo Fisher. I'm not a big fan, but he's probably earned a look as the #2 guy on the list.

Some of you Barners are so mindfricked it's unbelievable. You abandon all logic because it's so painful to admit a coach at Alabama is better

I think your list starts and ends with Jimbo, Peterson, and Franklin. Dabo isn't coming.

I find it laughable that he even mentioned Jon Gruden. Gruden has been out of coaching for a decade.

I'm starting to think y'all doth protest too much. How can you be so adamant? Is it, dare I say, tFear?

And lol at the idea that Peterson is more viable than Dabo
