They should be allowed to transfer anywhere once they graduate.

but I think Saban was pretty clear on his position regarding Smith's transfer request.
He did prior and smith tried to backdoor in the UGA transfer a second time after the Miami release.
Saban also fell back on the "its out of my hands" routine when he could have easily released him.
Like stated above both sides played this badly, Smith Although is making the situation worse than it ever should have been.

I agree with Saban on this. Why should Smart be able to recruit players to UGA from Alabama.
Wasn't it Smart who would not release players to go to Miami?
HYPOCRITE U.

You just can't let players get their way cause they whine and cry.
I hate he had his stuff thrown in the trash by some idiot but he is a man and if I would've been him I would've handled that myself in that situation

Then all they have to do is amend the rule to differentiate transfers for undergrads/grads if they choose to handle them differently.
exactly, thats the issue at hand.
Like stated earlier, if we are going to believe this facade of the student aspect first from student athlete, graduation is essentially a completion of his initial LOI.

Exactly, he made the situation worse, after the fact. he played games and got hurt.

I blame the parents more on that side of the equation. They planted the seed as far back as November. Smith stated himself he had no intentions to transfer until his mother was contacting Saban about playing time.

How much do you want to bet that this whole ordeal will completely forgotten come next summer in Destin and not a thing will be brought to the table for discussion?

I have no problem with info gathering as far as playing time. but lobbying(parents) is not kosher. Afterall, his end game is not Alabama and more playing time helps obtain the next level.

The irony is he would likely start at Alabama this fall. More of a probability that starting over elsewhere. Even at Georgia with the familiarity with Smart and Tucker. I feel this isn't really about playing time. Just a complete breakdown in understanding.

graduation and coaching changes, either HC or their specific position, should allow them to transfer with no penalty IMHO.

I feel it is a bullshite rule. Any guy/gal that has put in his/her time and graduated at the University and wants to pursue a graduate year on scholarship, should be able to go to wherever he wants if given the opportunity. These people aren't "about the students", if they hold that against them.
It's a bunch of nonsense for this rule to exist and anybody that agrees with the rule is a hypocrite who could give two shits about the student athletes. There aren't rules for a coach to switch in the same division, but a student athlete looking for a graduate transfer to continue on scholarship somewhere, "hey, f**k you kid, there are limits to where you can go".
