Sumlin can recruit, that much is for sure. But can he coach well enough? I agree that Top 25 perennially is pretty reasonable, but Top 10 is damn hard, even with really good players.

I will say one thing, Mizzou switching their "rivalry" from A&M to Arky came just at the right time.

So, they have finished top 10 exactly once. The above evidence of futility / mediocrity is shocking really. Even with JFF they finished 18 this year.

A&M finished 4th in the ESPN rankings this year. You might want to go recheck things...

edit: check that...4th when all said and done

I must be dreaming then...I could have sworn LSU has won the last three games in a row. And it looks like we'll be going in dry next year as well.

Going forward, we will have as good of a chance as anyone in the west

You'll have to prove that to most of us. I don't think you've been around long enough to grasp what it takes to win the SEC West even once much less, consistently. It is historically the toughest division in all of college football and to compete for the title you can pretty well bet you'll have to be built from the ground up to handle the attrition that is almost certain to occur. There's a reason Alabama & LSU recruit & run the style of offense & defense they do. Every now & then the flash & dash stuff gets it done but long term, smash-mouth football will take the SECW...and, beyond.

What do you think we're recruiting for?

Can't turn a big 12 team into an SEC stalwart overnight

Flash/dash is a necessary bridge between the two styles. Not like we could just line up and go toe to toe with y'all in the trenches.

Not while Aggy continues to field HS defenses. Sure, they may get a taste of the Top 10 every now and then, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

When a team like A&M continues to allow teams to score 30-40 points on them, it shows the kind of team they are. Soft. Sumlin and Aggy culture breeds a softness, not coincidently often associated with queers, and that will always keep them where they are now - middle of the pack.

Top 5 recruiting classes will yield top 5 results. Makes sense to me.

Prior to 2010, A&M and Auburn had shockingly similar histories. Florida was garbage before 1990. LSU wasn't anything special before Nick Saban arrived.

If these programs can become perennial powers in the SEC, A&M certainly can. We have every advantage they do/did.

Honestly, we have many more advantages than those schools you listed, other than maybe Florida (and they don't have the $ that we have). There is no rational reason we shouldn't have just as much if not more success than they have.

You can look down the road to Austin and see that this is often not the case.

According to A&M you had the greatest College QB of all time for 2 years/ the result a 3rd and 4th place finish in the SEC West for those years/ Does not bode well

We don't have Fatass Grandpa Mack as our coach, and that hillbilly was able to win an MNC based on recruiting alone. What's your point?
