bama has not always been a great team. take away the time of bear Bryant and nick saban and they've been a "normal" team or worse. they were wandering in the wilderness when they hired saban.
Are you 12 years old? Alabama is perceived almost unanimously as the best program in college football history. Pretending otherwise is just silly.

Maybe so. Can't deny it's a successful marriage.

Oh, he was. LSU isn't what Bama is.

This x100000000000000

LSU simply is not Bama in basically every aspect.
Saban benifitted from Bama and vice versa.

If a position coach (Shula) can win 10 games including a Cotton Bowl during cripling sanctions, anyone can.

Saban is a great coach.

A great coach at Alabama = 4 National Championships, 4 SEC Championships

A great coach at LSU = 1 National Championship, 2 SEC Championships

Yes, he has been at Bama longer. But he left LSU. No coach would voluntarily leave a great program like Alabama sans Francione escaping sanctions.

Probably about how they were post-Bear, pre-sanctions. A very good program still, top 10 or 15 most years. Seriosuly in the NC hunt a couple years out of the decade, but also a couple mediocre years thrown in as well. Getting owned by Auburn like they do when they don't have one of the top 2 CFB coaches ever.

They'll win at least NC with his leftovers.

It will be Dabo and he will win ONE championship with Saban's talent, and one more on his own after that. Saban is just that much better than everyone else at the college level. FWIW, the people saying Saban would never leave Alabama, I agree...but with a caveat. Had Saban gone to Alabama first as opposed to LSU, I feel he would have left them for the NFL. It's just something he had to do. Dabo isn't Saban even if he is really good. There will be a drop off. For those who say there won't be a drop off, you are basically telling me Alabama made Saban. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that. The man is the best program builder ever. Yes there will be success, but I can't see it being maintained at these historic levels.

I thought it was Morris who made Dabo the fine coach he is.

Take the Crimson glasses off bro. if he would have went to Alabama first he would have definitely bolted to the NFL. He had to scratch that itch. LSU would have at least 6 titles right now if he never left.

I give Saban's successor a 90% chance of being fired after no more than 5 years.

I think they fall a lot short term for this reason. Sagan is a micromanager and s control freak to the nth degree and has total control of that program. When he leaves there will be a HUGE power vacuum that will be tough to fill and you'll have people fighting to get control back they willingly gave to Saban. The power vacuum and resulting power struggle will cause some short term issues there.

There may be 2 different possibilities.

They either somebody akin to Larry Coker or Frank Solich (Mark Helfrich?) who to their credit is able to keep the success going for a while before they start sucking.

Or they could pull off a UF and hire somebody even worse like Zook or Muschamp who starts sucking right away.

When Bryant retired the job should have gone to Bobby Bowden.. He wanted it but the administration screwed the hire up. Had he been the coach there is no telling what his record would have been..
I think Dabo has learned how to be a good head coach. I would be surprised if he wasn't the first choice after Saban.

It's guaranteed they will get another elite coach based on track record, money and high expectations. They may be a 9-3 type of team, I wouldn't expect anything drastic.

I would absolutely LOVE to fill those shoes if I were a top coach. You'll be inheriting an absolute gold mine. True that the job isn't for everyone. But most of the coaches that consider themselves among the best welcome the challenge of coaching an elite program with a storied tradition and rabid fanbase.
