Yep I agree with this. I expect a return to competing for the sec regularly but not near the NC opportunities unless they hit a home run hire

I feel confident that we will make a decent hire just based on the situation we can offer.

Con is following a legend with a fanbase that already expected to win titles every now and now REALLY expects it.

However, pros are, unlike previous searches, we are now elite in terms of facilities, infrastructure, etc (not to mention a stacked roster). Saban, as LSU knows, builds a thing to last.

So, I assume we will hire at least a solid coach, be elite for the first 2-3 years post Saban and then remain anywhere between pretty good to elite depending on who that coach is. I don't think we'll be hiring any DuBoses or Shulas.

You just look desperate when you start a thread like this. I guess when you are willing to admit that you can't beat Saban, though, it doesn't really matter.

If Dabo stays on his current pace he will absolutely be the guy I want after Saban.

When he took over for Bowden he was in over his head and had many "Mickey Mouse" moments displaying his immaturity.

The last 3 years he has really matured and has turned into a hell of a program manager. He's an elite recruiter and his players love him.

What's not to like?

God, corndogs are dense.

It's humor, moron.

That - and clearly you underestimate Nick Saban. He would know.

HE WOULD KNOW.

I just don't think his style and personality will fit here. He very much has the "we are the underdog, chip on the shoulder" thing down pat. And it works wonders at Clemson. I don't even really say that as a "negative". It just doesn't work at Alabama, at all, ever.

Maybe I am underestimating his flexibility, but I think that he would really have to show that he can run, discuss and manage a program that is a perennial power, where you can NEVER proclaim yourself the underdog (even when you are bad) because people will laugh at you and your fans will despise it.

I think Dabo would come here and probably be pretty good, but I'm not positive his schtick would work.

If he could change that, everything else is top notch. Recruiting, coaching, management, etc.

I actually think they will be getting an upgrade when he leaves. LSU did.

Maybe so. If your claim that Miles was an upgrade from Saban for LSU is true then that means either Saban has gotten a whole lot better since he was at LSU or Alabama's program really is just that much better than LSU's that Bama can have the success they are having with an inferior coach. Because obviously Saban is having much more success than Miles.

Also if you actually think Bama will be getting an upgrade when Saban leaves - what do you think - all the championships go to Bama instead of just half? 2/3s?

Alabama will still be the best football program in the SEC.

He seemed to communicate fine during the last 5 in a reaux.

As an LSU fan, are you that insecure? C'mon man! Success is when you beat your competition at his own game, not beat him once he goes home and is no longer playing!

P.S. I also loath the losers in Louisiana who are band wagon Bama fans!

Alabama will still be really, really good after he leaves, but probably not as consistent. Probably something similar to how Ohio State, Oklahoma or FSU look right now. We will have to adapt and win in a variety of ways and not just with a front 7 that completely dominates every single game. We will have 5 star guys all over the field, but not 3 deep with them. Having the #1 class practically every year for a decade is flat out unheard of and impossible to duplicate.

I'm about 90% sure Dabo will be the guy. He will stay on same pace or close to it. Saban likely coaches at least 5 more years. If he leaves after 6 more seasons, Dabo's youngest son will have finished high school.

Dabo to Bama is an easy call at any point 5+ years from now. The tougher call is who would Bama take if Saban decides to leave in 2-3 years (which doesn't seem likely at this point, but anything could happen).

Well, we will back up a brinks truck to the door of the best possible coach, so probably not far. The program has been improved in all facets to such a degree that any good coach should be able to keep it rolling

This is a very insightful post. It's true that Dabo's present demeanor wouldn't work at Alabama. Emotion isn't the cornerstone of the Alabama football program. It'll take a tenacious, detail oriented, methodical individual to handle the Alabama job.
Seriously speaking, Dabo would be a good fit for Auburn, but I doubt he'd come.

Kids go to play for the Alabama name, and the chance to play on Sunday, not necessarily Nick Saban. I think he built the system that way.

man, you couldn't be more incorrect. the head coach makes ALL the difference in the world. I could give you 50 years of examples. starting when the bear left bama, how about carrol leaving usc, notre dame, Miami, etc, etc.

bama has not always been a great team. take away the time of bear Bryant and nick saban and they've been a "normal" team or worse. they were wandering in the wilderness when they hired saban.

just because saban is a great football coach doesn't mean he would be great at picking his successor. he very much wanted LSU to hire Houston nutt when he left and was not happy about us hiring another coach.

He had a fraction of the care for and connection to LSU as what he has at Bama. He likely had some part of him that wanted the next hire at LSU to NOT be better than he was (hence the Houston Nutt thought). At Bama, where he has a deep connection to the school and community, and his legacy is not likely to be threatened by anyone, I'm sure he would more likely recommend someone to continue what he's built.
