I said that I didn't necessarily want Chavis to leave, but seeing his defenses struggle more and more each year then have him expect a raise was a little too much. He was very good for us but his best years seemed to be behind him, so a change was made. I think he will for sure improve A&M's D. The consensus appears to be that it's a win-win for both schools, and I'd agree.

Right. In two of the losses the last offensive series by the opponent decided the game. The secondary and LB play was awful.

So LSU fans, I need your help- help me understand why hiring Chavis was a huge mistake on our part!

So not feeling like LSU should now drop down to Division II means Chavis was a mistake? We shouldn't go on?

Not thinking the program is doomed doesn't = hating Chavis

How was the 7th best offense in the SEC that gained a thousand fewer yards over the course of the season than the SEC Champ "awesome?" How was a defense that was 3rd in the SEC in yards per game "garbage?" Isn't 7 bigger than 3?

Not trolling, but this kind of shite is why I can't understand the LSU fan complaints. It it like yall are viewing the world through a completely different lens than me. It is like a world where a great defense isn't good enough, it has to be elite.

I appreciate those who are trying to translate for me.

I meant a game where HIS team's offense was fast paced and threw the ball a ton like A&M.

3,000 yard passer, 1,000 yard rusher, and 2 1,000 yard receivers for the first time in SEC history. That offense was beastly. We just were good at TOP so our possessions, thus total yards, were limited.

ETA:

And our defense was pretty good, but not great. People saying it sucked are just stupid and uninformed. It DID choke in a couple of games though late.

For Miles system it was awesome. You'll never see a 2,000 yard rusher or a 3,500 yard passer at LSU. It was extremely efficient.

Not sure he's ever coached in one on A&M's speed. We have had very few shootouts in the last 5 years.

Sounds like we took a big risk then.

If LSU fans say it, its sarcastically. Its also older than 1 year. People have said it for years on here. It doesn't anger anyone, but if you want to have a serious conversation, its a bad way to start.

Noted. Will not use the term.

If you're not trolling then your critical thinking skills are not particularly strong.

No, he answered you with a logical answer that most who understand LSU football would know.

In the scheme Miles runs, the offense was incredible. Ate up the clock and moved the chains. The defense was far below what we had seen of Chavis in the past.

If you want to see his defense operating as it should, go back and watch 2011 LSU.

Also that 2013 offense led the nation in 3rd down conversion % and set LSU's program record.

It was crazy efficient and ate up tons of clock.

Agreed.

But when we lost JFF every Aggie I talked to knew we had to expect a step back in that department and lean on something else. We hoped for better defensive play, or RB play. We didn't expect the next QB to step in and be better than JFF.

For many outsiders Chavis was considered the best coach on LSU's staff- the JFF of LSU coaching. Yet here we are less than a week later and LSU fans aren't talking about how the offense will get better to compensate, or something along those lines. Instead they talk about how they expect the SEC's best defense to get better.

That either means one of two things:

1. LSU fans only care about defense and therefore cannot even consider the concept that maybe that unit might take a step back requiring another unit to step forward

or

2. Chavis was a huge fraud that is easily replaced

Nothing else explains how LSU fans have tried to rationalize the situation. Given the instance to go with this line of thought even though it is less logical leads me to wonder if maybe Chavis is a fraud. Hence the thread.

The only reason I didn't open it to Tenn fans was because Chavis was a defensive coordinator for them in another era of football- an era where the Oregons of the world can't even have a shot at the national title. It would make sense if way back in 2008 they still thought that you should win games with your defense only.

None of that has to do with Chavis though.

It seems that you didn't follow the SEC much before A&M joined the conference.

While Spurrier was at UF, from 1990 - 2001, the Gators averaged 37 points per game. Tennessee was 4-8 against UF during that span, 2-5 with Chavis as DC, 2-3 with Chavis as DL coach.

Simply because of the talent we have. The defense improved greatly last year until the no show vs Notre Dame, which obviously was due to Chavis having his head somewhere else.

The talent is there to carry any coordinator next season. The D. Line was really bad early in the year but there are some highly talented people who will be on the depth chart next season.

Ok, I will just put it on the shelf of things I can't understand then.

How is asking LSU fans to bash our new hire trolling? Am I doing some sort of crazy reverse trolling where I want Chavis compliments or something?

Fact is, I don't even mind your claim. Every A&M fan that even MENTIONS Chavis on here will be accused of trolling for years. He is our new Speedy, our new Louisiana Off The Field National Championship. We will be really annoying this offseason.

But not yet, we aren't ready and you aren't ready. This thread therefore is a real conversation thread before the shite throwing really begins. Call it what you want.

Right. It wasn't video game level offense like A&M fans are used to, it was what Miles offense should look like every year with the right personnel.
