No, not unless you consider a golf ball and the Earth similar since both are round.

I'll tell you why he isn't on scholarship. It's because he's a decent walk-on. We're also trying to bring in a recruiting class and are getting tight on scholarships, with at least three or four big recruits still on the hook. He will get one as soon as possible after we bring in the recruiting class. Taking a scholarship and giving it to him right now, means we lose a scholarship for a highly rated recruit.

Yeah, and if the only reliable kicker on your roster walks away, how's that going to look? Have fun with making 60% PAT and 30% of your FGs next year, 50% of your kickoffs out of bounds. Seriously, I hope Kirby feels the same. The WLOCP will be an easy win.

Yeah, because that works out so well for teams each year. Good kickers are everywhere.

I am totally dumbfounded.

It's pretty obvious what Kirby is trying to do. Sign as many highly ranked athletes as possible just like Daddy Saban did.

He has an opportunity to arbirtrage, ie get a kicker for nothing.

So he goes in that direction. After all some four star or another MIGHT become the next big thing, and after all he has "Specs" for free, right?

He doesn't have to invest an opportunity cost in this kicker. After all the "Dogtards" have his back.

God, how did my South fall to this level? Or was it ever any different?

Anyway, I'm not a Tech grad, or even a former student. But let these Tech guys guide your way:

A) Son had graduated and would ordinarily be free to transfer anywhere by rule. Coach was restricting and not letting son transfer to where he wanted to. Mom came out to the press saying he should be allowed to go wherever he wanted.

B) Freshman son was brought in as a walk-on and told he wasn't guaranteed a scholarship, in a position that UGA has notoriously not given freshman scholarships to. Doesn't even start the season, eventually wins job halfway through. Season ends and player is again told a scholarship is not guaranteed but may have room before next season. Dad comes out and starts a website trashing high school soccer players and acting like his son is the best kicker of all time. Emails every media outlet in the state (for the second time) saying how big of an injustice it is and what a hardship it's put on his family. All the while it's entirely possible his sophomore son could very likely have a scholarship going into his sophomore season.

So no, it's not the same you ignorant gump frick.

you took literally 2 words and ignored everything else.

FACTS:

1 parent was upset over a SENIOR not being able to go to the school his previous coach was now coaching at.

1 parent has multiple times contacted state media outlets about his FRESHMAN son not getting a scholarship, which is commonplace with kickers at UGA, and he has the chance still recieve a scholly before his sophomore year. He also formed a website talking shite about teenage soccer players in high school and how his son was so much better than them.

Outside of the really, really gumpy fans there's typically been a small group of a few good ones which I thougth you were a part of. But the last week or so you've really gone full gump and gotten extra salty towards UGA. I don't know why but it's pretty annoying.

Because there were rules that said that he couldn't go there! Saban was well within his right to refuse a graduate transfer because there were bylaws that say that you can't transfer within conference without sitting out a year.

Mo Smith should have read the SEC bylaws before agreeing to play at Alabama. Mo Smith and his family didn't want to follow the rules, so they cried to the media.

The Blankenships didn't want to follow through with what they had previously agreed to, so they cried to the media as well.

For the record, I think both instances of going to the media are pretty shitty. If you agree to go to a school, then you agree to function under their rules and under the rules of the conference.

MS went to alabama. He played at alabama. He paid his dues to alabama. Once he graduated, he wanted to go somewhere else, which happens to other players every year.

Yes, I understand that there are particular rules about WHERE he can specifically go to, but the fact remains that graduates move to other schools literally every year, all the time. MS wanted to do that as well, and his parents were upset that he was not allowed to.

And that's where you're wrong. They were N-E-V-E-R promised a scholarship. They were told from the outset he didn't have a scholarship. He came in as a walk-on. He lost the job in preseason to another walk-on. Mid-season he finally won the job and started the last half of the season. He yet again was not promised a scholarship and was told he could potentially get one later. He was never at any point on, or promised, a scholarship. But helicopter dad is demanding the head coach give him one.

I kinda mostly agree with you..but can still CLEARLy see the difference in the 2 situations. Mo smith committed to alabama and went and played there, as he committed to, through his senior year. Once his tenure had lapsed, he wanted to go elsewhere which the NCAA allows and others do every year. Rigo came here as a walkon and was never at any point promised one yet his dad emailed the media demanding our head coach give him one.

If you can't see the difference, then I just don't know what to tell you.

How many graduates move within tSEC every year without sitting out a year? There were SEC rules that stated you couldn't do what Mo wanted. Every other graduate transfer in tSEC had to abide by the rules. If Mo wanted to transfer to FSU or OU, he was more than welcome, and within the rules, to do so.

Instead, Mo and his family tried to drag Alabama through the mud in the media because he couldn't pursue his newfound passion of public health that he used as an excuse to go against the rules in place.

That's what I said. They, referring to the Blankenships, didn't want to follow through with what they agreed to. What they agreed to was a walk-on spot at UGA. The Blankenships wanted to change the terms after they agreed to his position.

Idk, at least 1. There is absolutely postively no way that the SEC said "well we DO NOT allow this, but since you asked forcefully we'll let you". That's just not how the world works. Actually I found this quote from the SEC commish:

quote:

"I found, among other contributing factors, that a student-athlete who graduates in three years and exhibits a strong commitment to his or her academic future provides compelling motivation to help them achieve their goals on and off the field."

Mo Smith met all those guidelines so was granted release by the SEC head man. How is that the same as a parent demanding Kirby give a freshman a scholarship that he's never had and was never promised?

quote:

That's what I said. They, referring to the Blankenships, didn't want to follow through with what they agreed to. What they agreed to was a walk-on spot at UGA. The Blankenships wanted to change the terms after they agreed to his position.

A) The blankenships were offered as walkons only and then demanded the coach give them a scholarship, which was never offered to them.

B) Smith committed to play football for ablabama during his education and actually did so and fulfilled every obligation he had to them. He then wanted to transfer after his obligation was done to them, and the SEC commissioner deemed that was acceptable.

I'd really like to have some non UGA or bama (or nukeese/UF/gt alters) chime in and see what outsiders think of this conversation.

Yeah, they had to get a waiver. How did Mo Smith and his parents get the waiver? By crying to the media, putting tSEC and Saban in a tough spot. He ended up getting the waiver because he had a newfound dream of pursuing a Master's in Public Health, which was a major Alabama doesn't offer.

By the way, how is Mo's dream of public health going? I assume he is going to take at least nine credit hours while preparing for the draft, and continuing to take nine credit hours during his first year in the NFL.

WTF does Mo Smith and or his parents owe Bama after he's filled every obligation asked of him?"Bama wouldn't have a leg to stand on if Mo Smith had taken them to court.

WGAS if Saban was put in a "tough spot"...he freakin deserved it.
