The parents need to have a conversation with Kirby privately about this. Not in public. Another reason I hate social media.

They did have that private coversation according to this letter. His dad decided to respond to that private conversation in public.

Ah...I didnt read the letter my bad. Either way social media is not the place for that. Man this is tough now. The kid was what 14/17? After the disaster that was Ham he won some games. Kickers are tough. Gotta have them. You just have to.

Trust me. I remember in 2009 Tech had a guy who couldnt kick it deep on KOs and our coverage wasnt great. Held my breath everytime we scored knowing the impending KO. Always seemed to give good field position to the opposing team.

I remember PJ deciding to award a scholly to Harrison Butker. He was a top kicking prospect out of Westminster I think. Top 5 in the country. He has was a life saver for our special teams. Kicked it through the endzone on KOs comsistently and could nail FGs. Went down as GTs leading scorer in history. Scholly was 100% worth it.

Now GT has schollys out and commitments from two top 5 kickers in the country this class. One will punt the other KO and FG.

Still not sure Rodrigo is that good. But he is certainly serviceable. Tough spot.

Why not leave? It's not like he is going to play for a championship or anything?

If he's not on a scholly, can he transfer to another school that would give him one and play right away?

Giving a scholarship to a kid in his first 2 years on campus will mean that not only does he count against the 85 scholarship limit, but also against the 25 signee limit for the season as well. Regardless of whether he deserves a scholarship or not (I think he does... starting in the fall), that's just a big pill to swallow for a guy who struggles on kickoffs as much as he does. The kid's parents are not helping his situation.

I don't think any school could put him on scholarship earlier than this fall. He *could* transfer and play right away, but UGA would have the opportunity to offer him a scholarship for the same period. I believe privately, it's already been communicated that he's got a good shot at a fall scholarship assuming additional attrition, so not sure it would be a better situation even if he did.

Yes, Bama was just destroyed as a program when Maurice Smith, a graduate student, left to go to UGA. You're a moron, and a petty one at that.

So I will agree I'm not a fan of the tear down approach he was describing Smart did. Had a great mgr once that would drive me nuts doing that each time I asked for something. It was frustrating cause it would be so off topic. Just say why it won't work. Don't bring up that one time I was late, and missed a meeting 3 months ago. Geez.

With that said...Rodrigo needs to understand bosses do that, so suck it up buttercup. His dad even confirmed that's a normal way it's done, so if he is going the employee argument then that's apart of his learning experience. Also, move on if it's an issue. Obviously he wasn't on a scholly to start, so why would he be now?? Classic parents who pushed their kid to do something to get college paid for. Now instead he just closed some doors that being a "UGA Player" would have gotten him in.

And I wonder if any alums said yes this upsets them. Ha!! That was the best part. Dumbass.

Here is Rodrigo's response. He is a DGD.

quote:

Dear Bulldog Nation, It is of the opinion of many of you that my performance this season has justified that I be placed on scholarship. It is of the opinion of many of you that my performance this season failed to justify a scholarship. My opinion of whether or not I feel a scholarship is warranted is rather irrelevant, therefore I will not voice my opinion on the matter.

Georgia deserves the best players it can possibly find at every position and in order for this program to regain the national notoriety and respect that it so rightfully deserves, the program demands production short of impeccable. It is evident Georgia deserved better than what I was able to offer this season, and I would like to apologize for my clearly-defined deficiencies. I would also like to apologize for my father’s interactions with the media this season. He acted without my knowledge each time, and each incident was uncalled for.

I have received unwavering encouragement as well s my fair share of “constructive criticism from all of you this season and I hope that I will be fortunate enough to continue to receive support from the best fan base in the nation as we progress into the offseason and on into the next season. I hope that through this offseason I will develop into the kicker that Georgia expects of me.

I love the University of Georgia with everything that I have to offer, and I will continue to grind and work to become the athlete that the team deserves in order to be as successful as possible. I appreciate the love and affection that I have come across throughout the course of this past season, and I hope that I can continue to earn everybody’s trust and patronage as we move forward. Sincerely, The Kicker.

Can you put a dollar value on that?

Look the kid won the job as kicker. Did a fine job for them.

But that's not worth a scholarship? And he has to take crap from a 4 million a year or so man, Kirby Smart?

Additionally Smart must be pretty used to dealing with 85 IQ or so people. Because his talking points didn't make sense. Not a future as a lawyer or high priced negotiator for this man.

If this activity has no recompense for the young man, he ought to leave it behind. Use the free time he gets to grind hard in school, so he can qualify for med school, law school, or whatever.

But frankly Georgia Tech would have been a better school for him to attend. I mean don't Tech grads have, what, like half or a full million dollars more expected earnings over their lifetime?

And unless ol' Kirby wants to give some of that cash back, it is all about the money.

I'm not real sure.
Some of the other GT fans need to leave the posting to you. You've sold me on your knowledge and that you want honest discourse. You should apply to the Georgia board. (If you haven't already) I think you would be welcome there.

Hopefully Kirby doesn't hold a grudge against the kid because of the parents.

Sometimes it is hard to separate parents actions from feelings towards their kid
