On another note, whoever had the idea that unfilled upper deck seats will soon be turned into party decks, is really onto something.

As a millennial, one of the major reasons I still attend games is to reconnect with old college buddies who are now rarely seen due to their new "adult" commitments.

For three years out of undergrad, I purchased season tickets. Total waste of money as many of those "throw away" games are generally not very fun to sit through. Moreover, myself and others have decided that there are other fun things to do for a fraction of the price in Atlanta than what it costs to travel to Tuscaloosa for a gameday.

The SEC, and college football will eventually have to do one of two things in the next 20 years: move to the NFL model and make all 12 games against Big 6 teams (and expand to a 8 team playoff), or, change the business model on seating and stadium structure.

NFL teams can get away with a lot of things, because (and I know this will shock some of you 'college only guys') the revenue from the league TV deal and corporate sponsorship dollars absolutely crushes that of the college ranks.

Sorry, but UPS and Coca-Cola sponsorship money for the Atlanta Falcons new stadium in 2017 laps the field eight times on what LSU pulls in at Tiger Stadium.

The bubble is about to burst on these expansions, because the new generation of college students are getting shut out of games as students, can tailgate and watch games for free on 60 inch TV's outside the stadium, and be able to congregate for every game at a local alumni spot, as all games are now on TV.

For those saying video option/ technology will keep people at home..... the personal viewing options at the stadium will be mazing. Imagine anything in the way of replay and alternate angles, etc. being pumped to your home tv can be available to your cell phone/tablet in the stadium. Now imagine the potential to have individual control of your replay angles, etc.

Unless you have good seats the experience at home will be more comfortable, more convenient, cheaper, and offer all of the multiple angles/technology advantages you describe.

JMO but I think stadiums should be improving their seating, not increasing the numbers.

LSU's expansion was solely focused on adding premium seating (suites, clubs). I'm sure it's similar at Auburn but corporations buy up the majority of the suites and the demand was obviously there.

If I remember correctly, we only added 1,500 general admission seats + standing room only. The main intent for those 1,500 seats: 1) Move up the lower bowl visitor allotment 2) Free up lower bowl seating for LSU fans.

If you look below, the only general admission seating added is the 10ish rows above the top ribbon board between the two screens.

AU has a long waiting list for those type seats. Talk is that they will move the press box to the endzone in order to have more midfield box seats.

for either the teams that have already done so, or even including the teams that have it as a "goal" or "plan" in the future?

This is more a matter of "how" and not "why". If a school expands the way LSU did...

...then it's a good idea, not only now, but for the long term. Every amenity is there in that photo, and every amenity is close by. And not only did it upgrade the game experience on the inside, it also upgraded the look of the stadium on the outside...

Now

Then

Man is a social animal. If a stadium offers fans a superior way to socialize with family, friends, and fellow fans, then they will continue to come.

It's that simple.

Reporters and Broadcasters don't pay premium prices for tickets. This will force Vern to retire early, he will not be able to see the field.

It may be bad because at some point, the sports bubble will pop.

Reasons:

1. As ticket prices go up, taking the whole family to a game gets very expensive.

2. Admissions committees do not look for ardent sports fans and SAT heroes may or may not like football. I'll admit that I chose to go to Auburn, in part, because of my affinity for AU football. I'm not sure if the alumni bases will be as fervent as they were when I matriculated.

3. The TV experience is really incredible now and the logistics and creature comforts are way ahead of the stadium experience (for all but the very wealthiest)

4. Participation rates for youth football are down. This may impact fandom down the road as well.

Hey, I'm all for Vern retiring, but putting the press box the endzone, there won't be many folks that will be able to see the action at the other end of the field.

I guess they could just watch it on that monster jumbotron y'all are installing, folks in Tuskegee will be able to watch it too.

Yeah but don't they have to have a premium view to report on it or broadcast it???....how many football stadiums have a press box in the end zone?...

It may not be a bad idea though becuase I would say 100% of sports reporters and broadcasters are useless anyway...

Have you seen that jumbotron AU has going up right now? They could show the game live on that monster and the broadcasters stuck in the other end zone would watch it like they would at home on the 60" flatscreen.

You are absolutely correct "cheese" ! The "tipping point" at least regarding the average season ticket holder, is at hand ! If admins. continue to raise ticket, parking and concession prices with out adding tangible amenities...they WILL see a drop in re-newals/attendance ! With that drop will come less tailgating and less gameday hoop-la,energy and atmosphere. GIVE something tangible back to the "back-bone" of your program OR risk losing the golden goose !

Ticket revenue is a much smaller piece of the pie now. A wise AD would drop prices substantially.

You don't want a generation to grow up.not attending games.

That having been said, I think football is in bigger danger due to overblown concussion concerns.

I miss cheap tickets and small stadiums with great fans. It's my belief that we've all been fooled into believing that bigger and newer is better. The best stadium experiences come from great fans and not because your stadium has a great sushi bar.

It may all make sense on paper, but I don't like the reality out there today.

KSU's new Fifth/Third Bank Stadium seats less than 10k, I think this is the "new" way to go.

If you have not read Seats of Gold it is well worth your time to read. I have been observing this across the sports world for about a decade now but this guy put it in words.
