Schnellenberger going into the ghettos and selling the kids on an idea. Then Jimmy Johnson building the real dynasty. Luther Cambells money from rap was the icing that put them over the top into the Erickson era.

And Shapiro and the white collar crime money didn't do Jack. That was well after Butch Davis got the players in 97-99 that made up those great 2000-2003 teams.

I always thought the reason Miami jumped Auburn in 83 was because of the story of how Schnellenberger had helped the community by bridging the gap between the school(white community) and the ghettos. It was quite the facade.

I should have been clearer I believe when Shapiro made his fame grab he left out actions earlier than 2002 (when he was first publicly connected to the school) purposely as not to taint the accomplishments of those teams. Only my hunch.

No, Shapiro didn't start pulling in big dollars until 2004.

Miami jumped AU in '83 due ignorant dumbasses. Nothing more, nothing less.

The media had hyped that Nebraska team like no other. They were annointed the greatest college team of all time before the bowl game. Sports Illustrated called them the GOAT.

Miami jumping AU was a knee jerk emotional reaction of ignorant dumbasses that didn't know any better. It was an emotional reaction to a classic game based on preconceived notions built throughout the season . Deeper analysis made it obvious Nebraska ran up those 60-0 blowouts on nobodies and. Miami got blown out by the only decent team they played all year, a team AU beat.

At the end of the day the 1983 Miami-Nebraska game was not even a game of top 5 opponents. You can argue which was better, but neither was better than number 5 in the country as Miami was ranked going in.

The real top 4 of 1983 was AU, UGA, Texas, Florida. In that order.

He was connected to the school in 2002. How many years before that was he not connected to the school but still helping out?

Not only do they not mention the beat down, but most of the Miami team was/is in denial that they got their asses kicked. We all now though...... John Copeland saw it in Tortillas eyes......fear..

Don't kid yourself. The Husker program was every bit as dirty as the U, and probably worse. The historical whitewash on Dr Tom - one of the biggest hypocrites in college football history - is mind boggling.
