I think the bigger issue is they are trying to fill the crater left by Souther Cal especially after their meltdown last fall. Talking heads are lemmings so when the main driver fails they put up the next in line. Problem is neither the Cardinal or the Ducks have a crystal football yet to give them the full legitimacy the Trojans have enjoyed for decades.

They tried to fill that crater last year with the crater. Don't you remember the hype USC got?

No. Not if the better team wins the SECCG.

Wait ... wut?

If a team wins, they are the better team, correct?

Or, if not, explain yourself.

I'm still just asking myself why the subject line required three exclamation marks rather than one question mark?

Seems like "Dethroning the SEC?" would have worked far better and been more apropos for the subject matter contained herein.

Maybe if my thread title was a question!!!

Because 2011 Oklahoma State would have beaten the breaks off of 2012 Florida. I was far from impressed with Florida's QB play

So would 2012 FSU, 2012 USce, 2012 Aggies, 2012 LSU. Oh wait. Florida got it done vs the top tier programs and fell JUST short of another top fifteen program. No. Just no.

The point is that the "Okie Lite" defense had some playmakers and forced turnovers. Jeff Driskel was so bad that there is no way they score more than 21-24 points. OSU would have covered that by halftime.

You are so far off I don't even know where to begin. FSU 2012 had a SUBSTANTIALLY BETTER DEFENSE than Oklahoma State did in 2011. 37 points. Only two teams scored over 20 on UF. Top ten in almost every statistical category. Florida was ugly, but to claim they would get blown off the field by Oklahoma State is hilarious. Oklahoma State would barely be able to move the ball vs Florida.

You beat an overrated Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.

And what would make you say they were overrated?
They played for their Conference championship.

quote:

In 2011, you lost to Boise State

And Boise was ranked #5 and we were #19.

As for Michigan State? Ahhhh....ummm...I got nothing. I guess I could pull out the old LSU and Florida excuse and say we didn't want to be there!
But that is a crock. Good teams play their best always...sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
We screwed up in that one. I admit it.

But hey...you said we don't do anything in OOC games. You already admitted we beat Nebraska. And we got beat by a team that was ranked 14 places higher than us. Is that so horrible?
And games DO last for 4 quarters, do they not? I mean, puh-leeze. Should we count your game against LSU a loss since you had to come back in the 4th quarter? Does that make it any less of a win?

However, you said we can't win OOC games. Go through the last 7-10 years and see what our record is in OOC games. And, remember, we have palyed some fairly decent teams. Sure we have our Georgia Southerns...but you guys played Georgia State for gosh sakes. And we also played Arizona St., Oklahoma St., (One year playing both Arizona St AND Oklahoma St.) and we have Clemson this year. So, some fo these fans that throiw rocks at our OOC schedule needs to ask themselves if THEIR schools played a SEC schedule and then added Okie St and Arizona St, etc...what would they look like? Personally...I think we do alright. We went through a few tough years, but Richt has the ship righted and we are doing ok. We played you guys well, and hopefully, will have a good year this year. Do I compare ourselves to Alabama? nope. But we do alright. And, yes. I think we could beat Stanford and Ohio St. and Notre Dame.

If A&M somehow makes it to the title game, I would LOVE to play you guys. An A&M/Oregon track meet would set all sorts of offensive records.

Seriously? You were JUST making fun of Texas A&M, and Okie St. beat them 30-29. Do you REALLY want to go there?

Okie St gave up 30 or more points 5 times and one of those was over 40, PLUS they got beat by Iowa STATE!

UGA's lack of experience on the defensive side is what has me bearish on them.

I THINK we will be better on defense than most people think, but the defense IS what makes me pause. If Oregon can get their Defense up, they can contend.

Oregon had a defense last year but got hit with injuries on the DL. When healthy and playing a full game they held Arizona to 0 and KSU 17 running the. HUNH. This year we are deeper.

Said by you every single year.

This is part of the problem because one of my favorite metrics is scoring defense and last year this was #1 and #2. LINK

1 Alabama 10.93 (about 11)
2 Notre Dame 12.77 (about 13)

It looked to be a good matchup for a BCS MNC but the numbers are flawed because the schedules are not equal. FWIW, last year Stanford was #11 at 17.21 (about 17) so the bigger issue is Notre Dame playing many "meh" teams while the SEC team that rises to the top may have played several bottom schools but also played more teams at the very top.

Here was Stanford's schedule last year :
San Jose State (10-2 in WAC) W 20–17 = 3 point win against "meh"
Duke (6-6 in ACC) W 50–13 vs "meh" team
Southern Cal (7-5 in PAC) W 21–14 = 7 point win against "meh"
Washington (7-5 in PAC) L 13–17 = 4 point loss to "meh"
Arizona (7-5 in PAC) W 54–48 OT = 6 point win against "meh"
Notre Dame (12-0 as IND) L 13–20 OT = 7 point loss to top team
California (3-9 as PAC) W 21–3 = 18 point win against terrible team
Washington State (3-9 as PAC) W 24–17 = 7 point win against terrible team
Colorado (1-11 as PAC) W 48–0 = shutting out a terrible team
Oregon State (9-3 as PAC) W 27–23 = 4 point win against a decent team
Oregon (11-1 as PAC) W 17–14 OT = 3 point overtime win against a good team
UCLA (9-3 as PAC) W 35–17 = big win followed up by 3pt rematch

UCLA (9-3 as PAC) W 27–24 = 3pt win @ Stanford

Wisconsin (7-5 as B1G) W 20–14 = 6 point win against a "meh" team

If the top 6 SEC schools played that schedule my guess is all of them could have gone undefeated or maybe 1 loss. On the flip side I am willing to bet that if Stanford played the easiest SEC schedule last year they rack up at least 4 losses.

So 2006 ole miss was better than 2006 UF? The better team doesn't always win. What I was saying is that if an undefeated or one loss divisional champ loses to a 3 loss divisional champ in the SECCG.
