Cowherd always says what's on his mind. He always says what he believes in. I respect that, and he's fun to listen to.

It's just sports. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to win and stay on top. That includes paying cash to a head coach, which all places do. The deal about the house being paid off is a simple matter of cash, right? Inflation itself can't be attributed to the VAST difference in the way coaches are paid today vs yesteryear. In 10 years, coaches will be in the 10+ bracket. 10 more years, maybe 15 million. It's all relative.

Unhealthy? What's the worst that can happen? Perhaps he's insinuating another Sandusky scandal could happen here? I believe we all realize how improbable that is.

Nick Saban is a head coach of a football program. We give him a TON of money to have him win. And win he does. Whether we pay him another million on his contract (which no one seems to care about going upward) or pay off his house, it's all about keeping him happy and making a huge return on our investment.

I think the word "unhealthy" is solid hyperbole for the beginning of the off-season. I think it makes for good ratings and good radio / sports talk etc. It's funny how one word can be so powerful in terms of perception... if people buy it. My question to anyone who believes Bama has an "unhealthy" relationship with Nick Saban is: What do they think this "unhealthy" relationship will produce?

I'm buying whatever Cowherd's selling because along with Stephen A. Smith, Skip Bayless, and Paul Finebaum, there's nothing that they don't know.

As a fanbase. Not saying you personally, but admit as an overall fanbase the coach thing usually turns over the top. Just like as a fanbase, LSU is the biggest group of chicken littles in the country

Bama had a coach who is arguably the best to ever coach in college and won 6 national titles over 25 seasons. They now have what is arguably the best college coach of this era currently coaching. He has won 3 national titles in 8 seasons. That is 9 national titles in 33 seasons of football. How do you think LSU fans or fans of any school would treat a coach or pair of coaches with those resumes?

As for giving a raise to Nick Saban, I would love to hear someone tell me of another coach who has brought in more money to a school after you subtract his paycheck. From a business perspective, Saban was by far the best hire in the last 10 years.

Altho true, how did it feel as a Gump fan being held hostage last yr after the FG debacle? Has he ever taken a shred of responsibility for that? Hum... Absolute Power never ends well.

I'd say that the relationship is proving "unhealthy" for the rest of college football.

We still just call him Bertman, not Coach Bertman like we suited up for him, and he has a shitty street named after him, not a fricking statue while he is still alive

He makes bad business decisions, like 40+ million in personal debt bad.

probably make a great governor now that I think about it.

Cowherd has an unhealthy relationship with hearing himself talk. Besides, there are enough alumni from both schools in Alabama to keep both sides power grabs in check. Paterno was untouchable in Pennsylvania. Saban is not untouchable.

Saban wasn't going to leave. He's one of the best coaches in the country and deserves to be paid accordingly. As other coaches get raises, so will he. 11-1 is still a great year.

shite like that somehow gets kicked to the curb when he gets the team to win the conference and gets them to the playoff. This year's roster was sub-par by Bama's normal standard IMO.

Personally, I find it creepier when fans refer to their coach by his first name unless they actually know the guy. I'm going to guess that 99% of them don't.

Also, calling a coach by his last name comes across as a little disrespectful. Not to say that I don't do it but if I were to meet Nick Saban, I doubt I say "How's it going Saban?"

Mr. Saban? Nah......

If I met him, I would probably say "Nice to meet you Coach Saban". If that makes me wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Laugh at you for comparing college baseball to college football. I know LSU fans likes to toot the baseball horn, but come on when it comes to comparing the popularity of the two.

I guess that applies to Miles and LSU and every coach that doesn't win a NC that year and gets a raise.

He's also lost two bowl games in a row. If we make it three I bet there starts to be some talk.

Even The North Korean State press agency has weighed in:

It won't generate any butthurt, but it may get flamed based solely on the fact that every fan base does this.

That whole "Saban to Texas" thing was completely fabricated by this board. There was never any doubt he was sticking around.
