When an SEC team was in the big game, the Crystal football came back to the SEC.. Except 2012.. To let another conference take the crystal football, you'd have to be in the big game.

I was suggesting, I was saying that if your team had a better than "average" defense, you wouldn't be the ONLY SEC team to get to the big game and let another conference take the football.

Maybe so. None of that changes the fact that Gus has been successful with a scoring defense ranked just in the top 50. I don't think the addition of Muschamp will hurt. Should be a coaching and recruiting upgrade. Your flame attempt is noted though.

I doubt that it will hurt as well. However, it could hurt Mus. I'm pretty sure that the previous 4 or so defensive coordinators were successful at defense at their previous schools, yet were "encouraged" to leave after poor defensive performance by auburn teams.

A little exaggeration there. Roof and Johnson were run off. Van Gorder left when Chizik was canned.

Exaggeration? So Roof and Johnson were "encouraged" to leave. Gorder left when chizit was "encouraged" to leave. Which one of those 3 was a raging defensive success at auburn?

Yes, definitely on your "four or so" comment.

Roof and Johnson were fired. Van Gorder wasn't retained by Gus. I don't necessarily put that in the same category as Roof and Johnson.

None, but that wasn't really the point of my post.

Also, it doesn't look like Roof nor Van Gorder's careers are dead either. I have no idea where Johnson goes from here.

What is Muschamp planning to do about those position coaches? Somebody's got to teach those players to tackle. Roof's regime couldn't teach them, and neither could Johnson.

I don't know yet. Rumors are that he's bringing Travaris Robinson with him. That's about all we know.

So your company decides to "not retain" you with them, did they fire you? Fire or "not retain", either way you're unemployed.. Seems like a bit of legal hair splitting to me.

I don't believe that the defensive problems were caused by the DC's. Also don't believe that a new DC (regardless of who it is) will fix the problem.

So what do you think the problems with our D were? (remember, bama ran more plays a game than Auburn did. bama averaged having the ball for exactly 1 minute and 20 seconds more a game than Auburn this year)

Depends on how much "fixing" is needed. If we stay strong offensively, then I don't think it's that big of a hurdle for Muschamp to overcome. Just needs to be good enough to win. It's not like we've been losing a ton of games.

Obviously there was a problem, otherwise the DC wouldn't have been fired... Right? People who are doing a good/great job are not normally fired. At least that is how it is in my career field.

We agree, bama was an overall better team this year. Thing is, bama didn't fire any coordinators this year.
