Hardly. Auburn ends up paying their coaches after they leave to keep the dirty secrets. Smart move by Boom - he's now set for life, suckered or not.

This is actually the best thread on the issue.

The hurry up is a killer to defenses.

I don't see this working out like the aubies imagine.

Or you know, we could be upholding our end of the contract and paying them like we agreed to

That's a myth. There are other hurry up offenses that put out top defenses this year. If boom proves he can put out a very respectable defense under Gus, he has improved his resume more.

It also got you in the record books as the ONLY SEC team to let another conference take the BCS Crystal Football. A better than "average" defense might have taken that record away.. Good thing you had that "average" defense.

NBamaAlum Can't believe Muschamp just committed career suicide I never though that Kiffin and Saban would match up scheme or personality wise....

I didn't either. But Kiffen is completely rehabbing his image while learning from the best coach in CFB . This has been a masterpiece by Saban and shows very good sense on LK's part

If 2015 is good year from the Bama offense, LK will have his pick of good HC jobs in next year's job-openings sweepstakes.

Boom is walking into a gravy train imo. I think auburn has better talent on defense right now than what he had at florida. He will turn things around in year one imo.

So what exactly are you suggesting? That we had a shitty year last year? I'd say that Gus as an OC and HC here has been fairly successful. The addition of Muschamp only helps.

The only reason this is a stupid decision is that he's already shown he can be a DC, what does this prove if he's great?

What he should have done is become a small school HC- to show he's not a complete and utter failure at that (as Florida's HC he basically failed at every aspect of the job other being a DC, even recruiting- outside of the secondary Muschamp arguably leaves a less talented less deep roster than the one he inheirited).

Also, it should be pointed out he's a little bit overrated as a Defensive guy, he didn't really improve Florida's defense despite setting up the offense specifically too protect the defense and inflate their stats.

Mushamp is a young guy. If he went to a mid-level school and failed, he would never get an opportunity at an upper echelon school again. By doing this he gets more "seasoning". Gus has made him the HC of the D. Every decision about the D, down to how they practice, has been given to BOOM. He gets to do what he does best while being the 59th best paid coach in the nation.

No, because if he failed at a school like Houston, he would never get a shot at another power 5 school. Keep in mind, Will is still young.

He gets 3 years to continue to show he is a great DC and recruiter and work on other areas to improve his resume. Also, working under Gus gives him an opportunity to learn more about offense.

Those saying you can't have a great d while also playing with tempo on offense, I invite you to look at Ole Miss. Case closed.

At the end of the day, Muschamp is sitting in the catbird seat. He gets to return to AU where he has always been loved by fans. He will be the highest paid assistant in the country, not to mention all the money Florida still owes him - he'll be making close to what Jimbo Fisher gets paid. He won't have the stress of a HC job and has three years and will have a lot more choices when it comes to a HC job.
