That makes you an a-hole. Just like the OM fans signing it.

I disagree. You don't want your student section yelling TSWRA on national TV every Saturday, when most people don't even know what it means. shite most of the KA's and Pike's just say it just to say it and don't even think about it.

I think a bug flew in my eye.

I didn't know about this song at Ole Miss until I started researching SEC schools and their traditions this summer.
It's a great one.
It's a great one.

I knew about 15 pledges my FR year and I live next to 2 actives. Every single one of them said it and I asked why and they all say, Robert E Lee would have wanted us too. Not in a serious tone but just because he was the spiritual founder and all that shite.

Incorrect. Networks were giving us shite about it being audible during broadcasts. Guys calling the games were commenting on TSWRA chants during the damned games. For anyone watching an OM game from outside the south, we looked (accurately) like dumbass, racist, shite eating hicks. Students and people in the stands don't hear or see what they look and sound like on TV. The rest of the country sure as hell does...
It was an issue, albeit not a national, CNN, front page of the NYT sized issue, but it was an issue none the less. Combined that with CR protests and it would have gotten very, very bad for us, very, VERY soon. Whether you want to admit it or not is irrelevant.
Jones did the only thing he could. Get out in front of it and give the school and students an opportunity to keep the song and lose the shitty, racist portion.
Students chose, poorly.

I don't blindly hate the man,
Good. Because he also brought us Bjork.

but that was a calculated move on his part and was totally unnecessary.
Yes, it was most certainly calculated. To keep us out of the national spotlight for racist dumbass bullshite. It was ABSOLUTELY necessary. The students and recently graduated Alumni refused to stop acting like children, forcing Jones to treat the situation like a parent.
If the two of you won't share that candy bar, I'm taking it away from you.

Like I said, I didn't say it and I'm comfortable saying most of my pledge class didn't either

Dixie
by Daniel Decatur Emmett of Mount Vernon, Ohio
Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten, (Alt Original: Cinnamon seed and sandy bottom,)
Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land.
In Dixie Land, where I was born in,
early on one frosty mornin',
Look away, look away, look away Dixie Land.
I wish I was in Dixie, Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand
to live and die in Dixie.
Away, away, away down south in Dixie.
Away, away, away down south in Dixie
Optional Verses
Ole Missus marry "Will the weaver"
Willum was a gay deceiver
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
But when he put his arm around 'er,
He smiled fierce as a forty pounder,
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver
But that did not seem to grieve 'er
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
Ole Missus acted the foolish part
And died for a man that broke her heart
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
Now here's a health to the next ole Missus
An' all the gals that want to kiss us;
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
But if you want to drive 'way sorrow
Come and hear this song tomorrow
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
There's buckwheat cakes and Injun batter,
Makes you fat or a little fatter
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land
Then hoe it down and scratch your gravel,
To Dixie's Land I'm bound to travel,
Look away! Look away! Look away!
Dixie Land

Am I wrong in thinking that the mass quantities of OOS students who have no ties to FDWL are the majority of people yelling TSWRA just on ignorance and it being the cool thing to do as a Freshmen?

I just wish we had fast Dixie that didn't suck again.

It would have been nice to get the leadership in most, if not all frats to put pressure on members to stop back when Jones asked.
I'm no moron. I know kids will always do the opposite when authority requests something. But still, having a few older, more mature greek leaders on the correct side, MIGHT have saved the song.
One thing I'll admit, Jones should have and could have done a lot more to curb TSWRA than he did. I'd like to have seen him hold some discussion with greek and GDI leaders. He should have asked the football players and coaches to visit frats and dorms asking them to stop, etc.
But in the end, the students and fans chanting TSWRA are directly responsible for Dixie being shelved.

No, and that's where I take issue with Jones. Every last one of us knew what would happen when he laid down the stop or else decree.

Look, it ain't going to be fixed. People are always going to sing TSWRA.
It's in the same breath as "Neck" in Baton Rouge, as long as they keep playing it, L$U students are going to say STDB.
