Pretty strong chance both are drinking their pink slips away by end of next season

Idk, I see UT being on the right trajectory. They closed impressively at signing day.

Sumlin, on the other hand, is likely already drunk for the day. Whoop!

You've got that arrangement backwards.

Why would you offer a coach you didn't want?

Yea I wasn't going to be disappointed if he ended up leaving. He's likely one of the worst recruiters on our staff, and only an average DL coach, but he does provide ties to LA which we need.

There's also the perception/momentum hit of him leaving for A&M and coaching stability. Regardless, we weren't interested enough to even match A&M's offer, and he chose to stay anyways.

Our defense will always be Strong's defense, and Strong will be the recruiting closer, we just need Brick to get us in the door.

Do schools typically offer coaches they don't want?

All reports from your sites said that they matched the offer.

So he stayed at Texas for less money.

It doesn't matter who they hire of fire... this is A&M. Always mediocre. You are who you are.

See a pattern here? How has that LA connection worked out so far?

Calling people mediocre when your team is in fact mediocre.

You're not the brightest crayon in the box

Let's say they matched it. Does that change things much for you?

1) Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do. So it's kinda dumb to read to much into it. But being dumb is what most of us posters are about.

2) I personally think the upside on Texas is higher, but the bottom line is that even if you are making a case for the upside of A&M being higher, it sure isn't much higher -- certainly not so high that you would move without a big raise.

Raging Dumpster fire in progress.

No need for annual bonfire this season !

That is bad when you cant even get Brick to come to work with his old pal.

Sure. That means Texas has an even bigger buyout to deal with if they fire the staff after next season. Which means less money for the next staff to be hired. Not having enough money for the staff he wanted is why Charlie got stuck with his first OC to begin with.

Obviously this offer was Sumlin trying to make Chavis happy. Chavis likes Brick. But the best result for Texas A&M was Brick staying at Texas while being a bigger financial liability at Texas.

Now hopefully we can look for a guy who can actually recruit well for the position.

The difference is that LSU has actually had a successful football program at various points in its existence. College football didn't start in 2012.

You wanted him and he turned you down. That's what the author of the article clearly states. You wonder why you and your fellow posters are the laughing stock of tRant
