Horns247 has confirmed Brick Haley turned down #TAMU offer, will stay with the #Longhorns: LINK LINK
Texas defensive line coach Brick Haley will stay with the Longhorns despite overtures from Texas A&M about him joining its staff, a source close to the situation tells Horns247. Scout was the first to report the news of Haley staying with the Longhorns.
The Aggies made what was termed to Horns247 as a “competitive offer” to Haley, but Texas head coach Charlie Strong came close enough to the Texas A&M offer for Haley to feel comfortable. In the end with even, or at least close to even, money, Haley decided to stay in Austin. Sources say it was a very tough decision for Haley, who is very close with Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis, but he felt Austin was the best fit for him moving forward.
Haley worked with Chavis from 2009-14 at LSU, where Haley served as the defensive line coach and Chavis was the defensive coordinator. Chavis pitched Haley to serve in the same role with the Aggies, but Haley opted to stay with the Longhorns.
The 49-year-old Haley made $235,000 last year in the first of a two-year deal with the Longhorns. He’s expected to get a "nice" bump in annual salary under his new deal with Texas, sources tell Horns247.
Haley played a big role in Texas’ 2016 class coming together as the Longhorns signed seven defensive linemen in the cycle. That group included five defensive tackles and two defensive ends, none of which ranked worse than a three-star per the 247Sports rankings. Haley also played a role in helping Texas recruit in Louisiana, where Texas signed three recruits – Peyton Aucoin (TE), Malcolm Roach (DE) and D’Andre Christmas-Giles (DT).
With Haley opting to stay at Texas and the recent hires of wide receivers coach Charlie Williams and running backs coach Anthony Johnson, Strong only needs to find a defensive backs coach to complete his staff.

Would have been a homerun hire like Christensen

Chavis doing a hell of a job as a recruiter.

I tried to tell people getting Brick would be bad for A&M, and sourced LSU fans as my reasoning. Everyone dismissed me, not many people think highly of LSU grad's opinions.

Yep, with Brick and Chavis together it would only be a matter of time before they had zero depth at LB and on the DL. Two recruiting monsters there

Is this surprising? Moving from a rising program to a dying program makes zero sense.

You mean the coach you threw a hissy fit about when Chavis left? The one who had more DL recruits drafted than any other in the SEC while he was there? The one who landed tu's best DL recruiting class in years?
He's ours if we want him because that is how A&M rolls.

Brick Haley totally ran LSU's DL to the ground...and when I say that all you have to do it look at the sack totals and overall numbers from Dline players in 2014 vs 2015. Haley was a joke and couldn't recruit a dog to a bone.

He has a special needs child which may have entered into the decision.

Why would he leave a dumpster fire to go to lava pit?
