Many people considered Neyland to be surpassed only by Thorpe as an athlete.
Neyland was a football star, a 20 game winner in baseball, and a heavyweight collegiate boxing champion. He was considered one of the greatest athletes of his day.

Neyland is damn impressive there is no doubt. I still pick Thorpe over him and Bo Jackson, and Bo Jackson over Neyland... but we are at the top of Mount Everest in athletes here.

ep cause B-Bo's name wouldn't even be mentioned. If not for the B-B-Bo knows commercials he would be all but forgotten except for the Family.
making fun of someone with a speech impediment, who has done so much to help the shitty city the team you root for is located in, sure is cool of you.

Have none of you motherfrickers ever heard of Jim Thorpe?

Jim Thorpe and General Robert R. Neyland were better athletes than Bo.

I'm a huge Bo fan. Herschel is in down the street, and Willie Gault (summer AND winter Olympian, in addition to being a 1st rounder with a Super Bowl ring) is in an adjoining zip code.
Jim Thorpe and a couple of others are neighbors. That's it.

It should be noted MJ's hitting .202 in AA is a seriously underrated feat. The man hadn't thought about baseball in a decade.
Dave Winfield should get a shout-out too, as should Danny Ainge.

Kaitlyn disagrees and so will ESPN, bitch...

I can live with this. I mean, we can always bring up the guys who played approximately all the sports ever invented back in the early 1900s, but for sheer athletic prowess, I have no problem with Bo Jackson being picked.

Bo for me will always be #1, just an insanely gifted man who, by all accounts, didn't like sports all that much.

Jim Thorpe
There's a lot to debate here, and Thorpe, of course, was one of the first to come to mind, but I wonder whether one could make the claim that Thorpe was the most versatile athlete but Bo was the most physically gifted athlete? The question of what one means by "athlete" isn't a simple one.

I doubt you ever saw Jim Thorpe
We've all heard of him though thanks. My comments were about the "best athlete I've ever seen".
