Really. Wouldn't you think it should be an athlete that could participate in the highest levels on the field instead. I might agree that B-b-bo was potentially the greatest, but he is certainly not the greatest based on pro achievement. Running over the Boz is not nearly impressive today as it was back then.

Certainly the biggest freak of an athlete.

I still say him throwing out Harold Reynolds from the goddamn warning track when Harold was already halfway home before the ball left his hand is the most impressive thing I've ever seen anyone do on a baseball field.
same. this is actually what separates Bo from everyone else, forget all that other shite. Holy frick.

Funny thing is... The AU kicker that missed the FG @ the end of that IB? Robert McGinty.... Well, he caught SO MUCH grief for that miss that he ended up transferring to Florida... 2 years after that Iron Bowl loss, the UF Gators defeated Auburn, 17-16 on a last-second, 56-yard FG.... The UF Kicker? Robert McGinty. True Story !!

The question is was he the best athlete ever, not the most accomplished player ever.
Emmitt Smith is the most accomplished running back in history. All-time leading rusher, most rushing touchdowns, three SB titles, a SB MVP, most rushing yards in playoff history, most 1,000 yard seasons, etc. He isn't even in the top 5 most talented backs ever, though. Guys like Bo, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Gale Sayers, Jim Brown, etc. were all more skilled backs.

What an Ausome F U to A U. That poor kicker received death threats from the A U fan base.

Good thing that pro achievement wasn't the criteria.

Yep cause B-Bo's name wouldn't even be mentioned. If not for the B-B-Bo knows commercials he would be all but forgotten except for the Family.

For sure, which is why I'm so glad Auburn runs ESPN's Sports Science.

this never happened, now can`t say Dye treated him all that well, but Pat had so many qualities he learned from the Bear, AU could never quite reform him

Until Dale Jones and Company popped that arse hard a few times, and he told Pat Dye he was pulling himself from the game because "I don't feel well."

Jim Thorpe and General Robert R. Neyland were better athletes than Bo.

Threads like this bring me into "What If" land. What if Hakeem Olajuwan played TE in football in addition to playing hoops. One zillion goal line TDs. He'd have been unstoppable. And what if he tried pitching. Dat windup... 115 mph fastballs whew!

If I had to pick one I'd still lean towards Jim Thorpe. What he did was just insane. Yes, a different era and so on, but Thorpe was a monster in multiple sports. He may be the best pure, long haul, athlete this country has ever seen.
Which sounds like I am casting shade on Bo Jackson. I am not. Bo was amazing. Before he was hurt the man was just an extra level above everyone else. I think Thorpe is the best but Bo Jackson is right up there.
