Agreed. People visit New Orleans for the same reason college kids go to fraternity parties: to get drunk as frick, do embarrassing shite, and then get the frick out. But no one worth a damn wants to live in a fraternity house or New Orleans.

Cahaba Heights and Inverness are both a part of Birmingham FWIW

Neither of them are actually part of Birmingham though. Cahaba Heights is part of Vestavia, and Inverness is part of Hoover.

the list only consists of mostly white suburbs that happen to be incorporated. the only incorporated town by Tuscaloosa is Northport, and it isn't white enough for the author of the article.

Well, then Arab should be #1 on the list

Can't imagine living in Bama though, that would be the suck.

It's sort of like Texas, but with more trees and fewer Mexicans.

See this is one of the big negatives on Alabama. No Mexicans means no Mexican food. One of best friends lived in Birmingham and more recently moved outside Savannah and the lack of edible Mexican food is almost too great a torture to bear. Combine that with the complete lack of understanding that a brisket is the pinnacle of great BBQ and it's brutal.

Texas also has plenty of trees, especially East Texas. You could easily travel through East Texas and think you are in Alabama.

I do like the Gulf Coast of Bama but it's a pretty small part of the state. There are some nice small towns and Mobile is ok I suppose but Montgomery and Birmingham are pretty terrible and without a lot to get excited about.

Texas is just big and diverse, about the only thing we don't really have is mountains (and the beaches are kind of blah for the most part).

Are you kidding? There is a Mexican restaurant on every street in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.

The state hosting the super bowl this weekend and then mardi gras next weekend?

New Orleans is a CITY, not a state.

I'd rather live in a nice house on St. Charles Avenue uptown than some dump within walking distance of Legion Field.
It's a hell of a walk from Mountain Brook or Vestavia to Legion Field.

That wasn't my point.

You compared the nice part of Birmingham to a shitty part of New Orleans. I flipped the tables and compared a nice part of New Orleans to a shitty part of Birmingham to demonstrate how your analogy was shite.

Boaz

What is wrong with Boaz? I do some coverage at MMC a couple of times a year. It is a decent enough town.

Once I asked if there was a Catholic Church in town and half the hospital came to the ER to ask me questions like:

Why do you Catholics pray to statues?
Why do you have a pope?
Why do you pray to Mary?
Why do you stand up, kneel down, sit down?

Yeah, guess come to think about it, I would not live there either.....laughing

There are mardi gras parades all over the state. Not sure what you mean by this.

I guess states only count as having Mexicans and Mexican food if the Mexicans outnumber the 'Mericans.

El Barrio in Birmingham is as good of food as you'll find anywhere in TexMex land.

You couldn't pay me to live in Madison.. You get funneled in with no place to go.. frick that. Bad infrastructure.. Their city planning blows if you ask me. I'll take Hville and the higher crime all day.

It will never be good unless they take a page out of Huntsville's book and elevate a thru lane.

Sand Mountain is among my most hated parts of AL.. A long string of red lights, meth users, and high school dropouts. That place sucks.. Guntersville is it's only bright spot, and even that water is a cesspool.
