Homewood > Hoover

Hoover is too damn big. Only negative thing Homewood has is Valley Avenue and a tiny stretch of Greensprings.

This guy gets it. Homewood is underrated.

You would know about that.

Didn't Mountain Brook fall down on the list from where they were in previous years?

I think Auburn and Huntsville are probably the nicest places in Alabama to settle down and raise a family. While Birmingham Metro is the only place in Alabama I would want to live as a young professional

5 Points / Old Town Huntsville.. Just bought a house here and I love it.. Culturally one of the more diverse areas in AL. Right next to downtown with the Land Trust in my backyard.. Good gig if you ask me.

Yes, but at least there are elevation changes in the state.. I hate the beach so Florida is worse than AL to me.. I'll take the NW over any southeastern state - granted I wouldn't mind NC.

From Georgia so I have no dog in the fight, but Nola is home to some pretty big names. Some parts of Nola, not another city can compete.

But I like Bama too. Their big cities are shite, but they have some ballin arse small towns. Loved visiting my dad when he lived in Florence.

It's not the cities that make Alabama a jizzhole...it's the people IN the cities.

So this list is comprised of suburban bedroom towns of major cities.

What a dumbass list. Would an outsider be able to tell when you go from Hoover to Vestavia Hills? I doubt it. Why not just make a list of areas of each town that you'd want a lilly white setting with lower crime than other parts of town?

The Birmingham metro area is huge. So you have to look at the individual sections.

5 Points South needs a mention. The historic homes are huge and really nice for the price. It's really diverse and has a cool nightlife. And you're in walking distance from everything you need if you work in the city and go to school at UAB. The commute to the white aforementioned shopping areas is short as well.

Would a top 10 for the state of NY consider the metro as a whole or boroughs?

I'd rank Auburn just above Starkville and Oxford on the best SEC towns list, and far below all the rest. I was practically raised in Auburn and there's a reason many of us would eventually travel to Columbus, GA on the weekends (granted this was before it hit a major growth spurt in 2005). Still, I have no idea why people act like it's heaven on Earth and why it would be considered a top ten city in the state. Hell, when school's out, the population decreases by almost half.

BTW, you do realize we have our own OT board now, right?

there are literally hundreds of Hoovers or Mountain Brooks of the NYC area. if you wanted to list the Top 10 areas or neighborhoods of New York , fine. but don't call it a city and compare it to a small town in upstate New York.
