Let's be honest, he is using State as a rehab stint to show other programs he is worthy of employment. If a 2cd tier program comes calling, no doubt he goes. He is doing a good job building State up...but pump the brakes with the "top 10" talk.

What? UCLA is #3 right now at 18-1. Is that the kind of blown up program you were worried about having post-Howland?

And 1 of the 2 teams to have beaten Kentucky. Totally blown up.

He is not using the State program as a springboard. He is 59 years old. I look for him to be here 8-10 years and then retire back to Ca.
He is making $2 Million + so money is not an issue. I think he is having fun.
He has referenced the 1990-2012 era of State and all the success that we had under Coach Williams and Stans. We have a proven track record of success.
No reason we can't get back to that.
Last night was a small step towards that. Yes Top 10 and 30 wins are not on the immediate horizon but I believe we are going to be a force in the SEC over the coming years.

A Cal-Ben coaching rivalry would be good for the SEC.

The Howland's built a house in Starkville. They also have their beach home in Santa Barbara. He still spends time there in the summer. When he retires from MSU, he will return to Santa Barbara. Case closed.

He's doing a great job and they are headed to the tourney this year so Top 10 next year is certainly a possibility.

Why are State fans so cocky all of sudden?

Not sure. MSU has a recent history of bringing in nice recruits but then seeing them transfer, flame out or leave early for unrealistic NBA dreams.

Dumb post of the year. Howland said this is his last job. The man is retiring after this job which he expects to have for a good while. Of course, building a brand new house in Starkville is certainly a sign he plans on leaving very soon.

What do you expect him to say? Saban "made it clear" he wasn't taking the Alabama job and Tommy Tuberville was leaving Oxford in a pine box

South Carolina got left out last year with a record of 23-8 because of a crap sos. 22-8 doesn't automatically get you in.

Well damn, let it be known....you can retain a coach by building him a house on a golf course.

Especially when it costs what $50/sq ft to build a house in that shite hole?

Dude probably paid with cash out of his wallet.

Hard to see any path that we would get in short of winning the SEC tournament.

No cocky talk from me. Just expressing a realistic opinion.

The guy would have never moved 2500 miles to coach if he did not plan to stay here for a while. If he was 35-40-45 years old, then yes, I don't we would hang on to him long.
But like I said, he is almost 60 years old, it is pretty much a given that this his last gig. He appears to be enjoying himself and he has the program moving like he wants.

We will not be there overnight. Growing pains will happen but it is nice to be excited about BBall again in Starkvegas.

Lulz, Starkville was the only place that offered him the opportunity to coach in a major P5 program. Let's not act he was being actively pursued by programs to lead their team. I get you're enthusiasm is high right now, but get a little realistic..We welcome better competition in the SEC. It benefits us all.

Oh, a program that puts "Starkvegas" on the floor is a bit embarrassing.

I would expect no less salt from our rival.
